I have an '09 Silverado and it has been flawless. I shopped around at the time and did like all 3 of the domestics, all nice trucks. What sold me on the Chevy is the Autotrac 4x4 system (would not buy another truck without it or a similar system) the Eaton G-80 locking rear differential, active fuel management (works seamlessly) and the 5 year/160km powertrain warranty.
A buddy just bought a new Tacoma SRD and is regretting buying it already. Looks nice when sitting still but is slow, tinny and does not get very good gas mileage (my full size Silverado does better). The interior reminds me of a 90's Corolla.
The Silverado/Sierra are new for '14, talked to a few guys that have one and they rave about them. Good luck with your shopping!
I have a Chevy truck with the "automatic" G-80 locking rear diff. Piece of crap... never works when you need it. The selectable locking diff blows it out of the water. You can get this with Ford and the Toyota Tacoma.

This is a truck thread, not a JEEP thread.
As cool as your Rubicon is, and they are cool, they are garbage for a family vehicle. They suck to tow with, suck for storage, and I have been in chuck wagons with more refined rides. All that being said we have one sitting on our lot right now with a 6 speed, that I might replace my Tiguan with. But I am single, with a dog.
Unlimited Wranglers get traded in for 1 reason and one reason only. People realize after owning the thing for 6 months they are not a suitable family car. Also people complain huge about the fuel economy.
The main reason on am considering this, is I want to do the pickup conversion, which is ridiculously cool:

^^^^^ I realize that but I mentioned the capability of the Rubicon because of what he said in his OP. Plenty of trucks get stuck where a Ruby wouldn't.

If you get stuck, in City condition, of any kind, in even the crappiest of 4WD trucks, you deserve the Struggler of the century award. The stuff Rubicons do, that make them better 4WD's all happen off road, and involve boulder, logs, mud, and crazy climbing grades. But a lot of what they awesome off-road, do make them suck on road, especially the wheelbase.
My 4 cyl Tiguan is plowing through 2 foot drifts no problem. But it wouldn't be suitable for his needs.

I've seen plenty of 4x4 trucks stuck in the ditch, on the hwy, after a big snowfall. A vehicle with a selectable locking diff will beat the hell out of one without.... which is why I mentioned Fords and the Tacoma. Not all 4x4's are equal.
I'm a big fan of the Tacoma. Its big enough without being too big, it will tow (within reason) and it's built like a Toyota...
I'd encourage you to look seriously look at it.
I had a friend with a Titan and he couldn't get out of it fast enough...he bought a Tacoma and loves it
so you're saying the thing goes like hell and doesn't want to stop?

And most of those stuck people are strugglers that were driving like idiots that don't realize their 4WD truck doesn't stop any faster than a car.

Actually, if I was an eccentric millionaire, a Unimog is exactly what I would us as my grocery getter, and errand runner. Imagine pulling into home depot to pick up a sheet of drywall in one?

Red-Mile-DJ, have you considered the Unimog line-up? They have locking diffs, you need locking diffs, or you will get trapped in puddles and die of starvation.

Or they got cut off by some idiot and the only place to go was the ditch.
And its not just 4x4 owners that sometimes drive like idiots in bad weather conditions. I usually see way more cars in the ditch than 4x4's. Its just amazing how fast some stupid people in cars drive in slippery conditions.
What I'm saying though, is that heavy deep snow is just about the most difficult condition (other than mud) to drive through and a locking diff might be the difference between being stuck there for hours or being able to drive on out of it.
If you're going to get a 4x4 truck, spend the little extra on that selectable locker. You won't regret it.
