Like their team rebuild I can only assume this will take much longer, and produce far worse results, than the original plan.

They have already started building it. They are using the ultimate in technology to conceal it. One big massive cloaking tarp. You don't even realize they are building it right now.

I'm waiting for the Oilers new building to break ground in 2014, and still be under construction in 2021, but for them to insist adamantly that they've only ACTUALLY been building it for 3 years.

I cant wait until people realize that they're going to get to watch this same crappy hockey team in a shiny new arena with even more expensive tickets.

Talk about consumer rape.

How long does it typically take to build a stadium? If they break ground in the spring (say April) and having to be done by August 2016, will 28 months be enough to build that entire area. Considering it will be winter conditions for almost 10 of those months, I think they might be cutting it close.

It would normally take 30 months to build an arena like this. Maybe it'll be a bit quicker as they're already doing work in and around the grounds. Wouldn't be surprised to see a Rangers-esque road trip to start the 2016-17 season for the Oilers though.

This is our future: "Coming up next on Rogers Sportsnet, it's Rogers Hockey Night in Canada with game 1 live from Rogers Arena. Game 2 later tonight is live from Rogers Place. The Rogers Pre-Game show is next right after these commercials from Rogers".

Rogers.

Come on KK announce the flames new stadium. When has there been ramblings about a rumored new building? 2008?

Also... I hope they build a nice new grandstand/ horse race track/ flames stadium complex so that the arena can stay on the stampede grounds

Can you give me a good reason why the Flames ownership would want to continue bending over for the Stampede and handing over buckets of money for nothing when they can build a stadium on land they own (West Village) and retain 100% of the profits?

There's a reason the Stampede has been developing their land and working on improving the commercial area on the grounds - the Flames aren't sticking around.

I know you've been hinting at arena/stadium plans to be announced for a while now.

Any clue on when something will be announced?

Just doesn't seem like it will be happening anytime soon...

I've been hoping for an announcement before the end of the calendar year for some time, but that seems less and less likely with each passing month.

Ken King was on Fan960 the other day, he called their arena project "ambitious."

I'm just as annoyed by the delays in the announcement, but it goes to show you what a professional organization the Flames are.

They won't announce this until they've finalized details, contracts, agreements, etc.

Compare that to Edmonton and the giant clusterbluck that went on getting that arena off the ground, and you notice a strong organizational differentiation between the two groups
