Cheering against Canada because 1/25th of team USA happens to be a Flames prospect is something I would expect from a Canucks fan
Cheer for your country weirdos. Hockey is Canada's game and we should win every tournament.
If you want to support Calgary then cheer for the three Calgarian kids who are representing team Canada

Yeah, I think that's actually more of a travesty than Poirier not being there.

Hopefully Canada beats the US 20-0. If Gillies can't shake off a loss to a team like Canada in this tournament not likely to make it anyways.

I cheer for Canada in anything but it seems lately the World Junior team is so arrogent and political. I'm not interested in watching another grinding Brent Sutter coached team on the big ice. Especially seeing what he did with that 2012 World Championship team.
Not having Poirier definitely makes it less fun to cheer for them.

That seems very, very unlikely.

The amount of people who beleive that Sutter has it out for the Flames is alarming. I agree with moon, this guy wants to win and is likely taking what he believes is the best roster for that.

The weird thing about "pluggers" making the team is that this is a roster where a lot of the higher-end players aren't all about flash as much as they are two-way forces. Scott Laughton and Horvat are good examples but it continues down the list with Gauthier, Lazar, Hudon, even Rychel has that energy game.
There's going to be plenty of pure offensive skill in the mix with Drouin, McDavid, Shinkaruk et al there, but it seems to me that most years Canada is 3 lines of offense and one energy line. This year it'll be interspersed throughout the lineup so I don't know why they need the Josh Andersons and Felix Girards in there this go-around. Makes more sense to me to take Max Domi and Leipsic (who is also an energy guy but has high-end finish).

That's a very likely explanation. If he's a bubble pick, and brings pims, you could probably strike him off the list

Hunter Shinkaruk picked over Emile Poirier? Rebuild failed.

I don't care about it as much when there are no Flames prospects on the team especially when it seems like one got the shaft

I believe Brent Sutter and head scout Ryan Jankowski are deciding the roster.

Unlike all of the experts here who apparently watch all 3 junior leagues and are well versed on all of the prospects, I will only speak about the guys I have a good knowledge about from actually seeing them play.
Josh Anderson has been the best or second best player on the Knights, game in, game out along with Bo Horvat. He can score, forecheck, take faceoffs, hit, fight, play defense, penalty kill. If he had Domi's mitts he would have been the #1 overall pick.
Max Domi has all the skill in the world, and while he is coming around, he was either hurt physically, hurt because he did not make Phoenix, or in a bad slump because when he first got back to London, his play was down. Domi is one of the most skilled players I have seen come through London (in the last little while we have had a ton, Tavares, Kane, Perry, Wideman, Gagner, Nash) but lately the guys he is starting to remind me of are arguably the two who were most skilled while playing for the Knights: Rob Schremp and CP all time favourite Rico Fata. That's not good. I called the Rob Schremp NHL failure right from the start and for the record I say Domi has a good to great NHL career. That being said, I was more surprised last year than I am this year with respect to his exclusion.
As for Rychel, I love his game as well, he plays like Horvat but has more of an edge to him.
McDavid is special.

I'll comment on a few more guys:
Ekblad has been a man amongst boys since he joined the league. This is well known and it seems he is the target of choice here on CP for this year's draft.
Bigras I know little about, I've seen him play but nothing sticks out.
Pelech I have noticed and he's good. I was actually surprised at his size, thoguht he was bigger.
I have only seen Laughton once or twice and was pretty impressed with him, though he brings a lot of the same things as other guys on this team, so he is likely in a battle with them for a spot.

This is kind of what I was thinking as well. During the Subway Series he took a couple of questionable penalties, and if anything the WJC is going to be called even tighter than that.
I think he was a bubble pick to begin with, and I think the fact he plays a bit on the edge was enough to keep him off the roster.

Oh and Jake Patterson was the best goalie on the team last year, I was shocked when Subban got the call. I don't think you can go wrong with either goalie based on what I saw of Fucale in the Memorial Cup last year.

Would of liked Poirier to make it, but figured he wouldn't after the way he was being used in the Subway Series.
As for Shinkaruk (not a fan) he did play well with Petan in the Subway Series.
Fredrick Gauthier
I'll be cheering for Gillies/Rafikov and Canada

Both Sam and Griffin made the selection roster.
Griffin was on the team last year, and hasn't done anything to prove he's worse this year, so it really shouldn't be laughable that he made the selection roster.
