i really thought porier would be a lock for team canada, especially considering how well he's doing.

This is a tournament where my patriotism to canada goes out the door, and i really just cheer for the flames prospects....

Dont know hoiw you dont take poirer for the penalty kill at least guys got 5 short handed goals this season he'd be better on the fourth line than some of these other pluggers

Fair enough I guess, but a couple things.

1) Who's to say the Flame prospect ever makes the NHL? There are plenty of successful junior tournament players who never make any impact, or never even make the NHL.
2) I know we're in a rebuild, but there is nothing saying that any prospect can't be traded before ever suiting up with the Flames?

What you can be sure of, is a few of the players on Team Canada will become stars in the NHL and become National Team players in future Olympics and World Cups.

Nothing is guaranteed, and many of those who dominate this tournament go on to play zero games in the NHL.

But success in this tournament is generally a better indicator of a player's NHL capability than failure.

It's not like this is the final roster or anything. They need to HAVE a third goalie on the roster and will hopefully get bolstered by 1 or 2 players from the NHL. Also guys could get injured and be replaced like Hudon last year

and any Canadian that cheers against their country in this tournament is a weirdo

What pluggers are you referring to? Anderson? I see a pretty good team selected so far, more excited about Team Canada this year than last, that's for sure, thought the team was really not built properly last year and it showed. It's a strong group that they put together, it's not an insult that Poirier didn't make it. Hopefully it just adds even more fuel to his fire to show Hockey Canada they made a mistake.

Well, I guess just like last year, I'll be cheering on the Americans. Too bad, because I was hoping to have some Flames prospects on Team Canada so I could cheer them on. Now I have no interest in how they do. Go USA!

Poirier wasn't impressive in the Super Series but he wasn't getting prime opportunities either. Same for Klimchuk.

You can't help but think that there is a little bit of Brent Sutter sticking it to the Flames here. The Flames prospects weren't really given an opportunity to shine offensively, neither got any PP time, nor played in an offensive role.

The Oilers also didn't get much favours from Brent here, they were also a team that was rumoured to have wanted to hire him but didn't. Do they have any prospects on the team?

Actually when looking at it again, Poirier and Klimchuk were only going to make it as bottom 6 guys and PKers, but when you have guys like Laughton, Horvat, Gauthier, and Lazar there, it was going to be difficult for them to make it. Similar roles and all 4 of those guys are considered superior prospects, especially when all 4 of those guys can play centre too.

Was Ryan Jankowski, Sean Burke and Fred Braithwaite also trying to stick it to the Flames??

Too bad that Porier isn't on the team, but not really worried about it. Hockey Canada has proven over the past few years they have no idea what they are doing picking these teams. Who's the designated guy who runs around with his head cut off taking charging penalties every game?

People are obviously free to cheer for whoever they want but count me in as seeing it odd to cheer against Canada. How did cheering for Tom Erixon work out for Flames fans?

Hopefully Canada beats the US 20-0. If Gillies can't shake off a loss to a team like Canada in this tournament not likely to make it anyways.

Maybe Poirier's absence isbecause of his 70+ penalty minutes. With the WJC getting called tighter than the Q I'm guessing they see that as a liabillity. (I have not conpared his PIM with any of the other players on the list - supposed to be working )

That would explain the Nurse omission as well.

Brent Sutter who is ultra competitive and assumedly enjoys being part of Team Canada is going to hurt his chances at success to try and stuck it to the Flames who gave him a job for 3 years and then let him go under reasonable circumstances?

That seems very, very unlikely.

There's a difference between cheering for a player, and cheering against Canada. I think at the end of the day, we all wish Gillies was playing for Canada, but I want him to do well because in the end it's better for him in terms of his development. If that comes at the expense of Canada in a game or two, well, so be it.

If Canada can't shake off a loss to a player like Gillies in this tournament, they are likely not that good anyways.

I would of taken poirer over anderson and girard for sure i guess they're about the only actual plugger they have on the roster. I still think they should of given him an invite he could of fought for a spot between rychel, deluca, and poirer. He is faster which is nice on the big ice and he's bigger. This team is pretty tiny in the first place just look at the super series russia was boxing our forwards out pretty easily.

I don't know, is it the coach who makes the decision on who ultimately makes a team or the scouts?

Anyways, I edited my post when I looked at the list again, and I do think the Flames kids were in tough; however, I do think that there is a little bit of bitterness from Brent though.

I'm more surprised Nurse isn't there.
