He had his jimmies rustled after LA's goal was initially waved off even though it was obviously a goal.

How do you not give Ramo the start after a performance like that? Especially after giving Berra a billion starts in a row with mediocre results?
Makes no sense and not fair at all.

“He played an outstanding game. Part of the reason that he played so well was the way that he works every day. Watching this guy in practice, watching this guy in the gym, I knew that he would be ready and he deserves big credit because that was not easy. It’s not an easy place to play. He gave us a big win.”

“Coaches here really emphasize pressure on the penalty kill,” said Byron. “I jumped on the ice and saw that the goalie fell down. I just tried to jump on the puck as quick as I could. Jonesie was in a great spot there and I just slid it over to him. I saw him out of the corner of my eye and I knew I just had to get it to him. I made a lucky pass to him and he just buried it.”
Added Cammalleri: “Funny thing is, they got that five-minute major and we went to the bench and we said, ‘Hey, boys. We’re going to come out of this 1-0.’ You get that feeling sometimes, that the five-minute (power play) gets a little lackadaisical.”
|
Quote:
“I think I’m more nervous when I’m not playing, so it was a relief to be in the net,” said Ramo. “I felt pretty good. The guys did a really good job limiting their odd-man rushes. Our penalty-killing was really good, so that helped me a lot. I felt confident. I haven’t played in a while, but I knew the time would come when I’d play ... you have to be ready. That’s my job. It’s no excuse that you haven’t played a lot.”
|
Quote:
“A great reward for both sides,” said Hartley. “The players, they’re kids and to play in front of the dads ... the dads feel real good about them. And for our players, it’s a way to say thank you to the dads.”

Just watched the game. I haven't caught the last few losses, but the Flames played pretty well. LA is one of the top teams in the league and without 6 regulars (I include Monahan and Sven), they mostly limited LA chances. They also pushed back after LA scored.
I thought Stajan, Stempniak, Backlund, Brodie, Cammalleri and Ramo had great games.

I liked Smid tonight too, for as long as he played. He wasn't taking anything in front of our net which is exactly what we need.

I thought it was because D. Brown kinda looks like Forest Gump, only more downsy.

Colborne has been noticeably better at faceoffs since their 5 day break. He must have got in plenty of practice.

Last minute heroics with both Butler and O'Brien on the ice together!
By the way, what did Hrudey say? I didn't watch the game with sound.
EDIT: I mean Healy... not Hrudey.

Not sure if you mean anything specific that he said but he basically was over top with praise for everyone, especially the Flames, all night long.
Nothing was good or okay, everything was tremendous, amazing etc. Doughty was the best defenseman in the league, Ramo was unreal during PK, Hartely did an amazing job with his coaching staff.
Can't think anyone would have been upset with Hrudey with the amount of praise he was giving the Flames for some pretty routine things.

Oh, heh. It's been a rough morning.
I meant Healy.

Flames should be splitting the starts from here on. Give them equal opportunity and take the "Playing Hot" out of the equation. Both need experience and then at the end of the season choose one to go forward with.

How were the local fans/mob after the game? did you wear a jersey? any fun back and forth? what was bad about the fans you mentioned?
I'm out of T.Hanks by the way...
Awesome to see hanks at the GC and this game so into it.
My observations: Nevermore, Nevermore... great start by Edgar Allan Ramo. The goal that beat him was a beauty. Flames played hard all game and sacrificed so much for that win. Real gutsy effort. Brodie is looking better with all that new ice time. Butler may have a partner in SOB. Russel is a future "A" holder on this team. He took some serious hits to make plays. That is real commitment. I think it was a nice effort to have all the dads there. It seemed to give Backlund a lot of confidence. He is not someone that this team should sell low on. We need to acquire players like him. Jay has been doing that but don't deviate from the plan.
I really liked squid on the last goal. Colbourne is looking real good, he could be a big time top 9 player down the road. He is for us due to injuries but he isn't shying away and he looks like he belongs. That FO stat was unreal.
This is a perfect season for a rebuilding team. big win,

I like what colborne brings to this team. Teams need depth in the line up and I think he makes for a perfect 3rd line center. He wins face offs, has great size, has enough scoring touch to contribute and is fast for a big guy. He also has enough skill to fill in higher up in the line up if injuries mount up. That's what you need from a 3rd line centermen.
People are critical of him cause he's not a top six forward... But for the cheap price the flames paid for him, he doesn't need to be.

He reminds me a little bit of Joel Otto, maybe not as tough and intimidating but if he could acquire those attributes through time and experience he would be a great player for us. Otto was a great defensive forward, an excellent face off guy often paired against teams top players. I could see Colborne filling a similar role once he starts playing a little bigger and meaner.
