Hartley may be up to something with Backs, Sven and Ramo. This might be his way of trying to get them to bring it up a couple more notches "he is probably pissing them off intentionally to get them to play with a bigger chip on their shoulder."

Woo hoo!
I can't say it was a great game, but I loved that the Flames came through in the last minute. Also, we finally surrendered less than 2 goals... all we needed was 5 defenseman.

And to Tom Hanks suck it!

Good to see the team respond to being embarrassed yesterday by playing probably their best game of the season tonight.

Ramo was rock solid. The one goal was a perfect shot just under the bar. I'll be very disappointed if he doesn't start next game.

Almost 30 minutes of ice time for Brodie. I think this may be his best game yet in a Flames uniform. Watching him clear the puck time and time again on the 5 minute kill was a thing of beauty. That he got an assist on the shorty was just the icing on the cake.

Really impressed with Backlund as well. Hopefully he realizes that he needs to play like that all the time if he wants to stick in the NHL.

Not sure what to think of Byron. Yes, he got an assist, but that goal doesn't happen if Scrivens doesn't blow a tire going out to play the puck. Was pretty much invisible otherwise.

One thing that really stood out for me was the lack of icing calls against Calgary. In the past few games it seemed like they were icing the puck several times a period. Tonight I think they might have had four or five icing calls for the whole game. Really seems to help if you aren't constantly starting in your own zone with tired players

Overall, good character road win for the good guys

They don't come around often, but these are the types of wins that make a rebuild bearable. We don't need a lot of them, just a few scattered about to keep things from getting too grim.

First regulation win since the Smid trade, and he got kicked out before the first goal was scored. Meanwhile, the Oilers have 4 regulation wins since the trade.

Clearly, there's a gypsy curse on him that must be removed.

I was just saying that the other day to a Canuck fan friend.

The saving grace this season is the games are generally entertaining and the team is more or less in it even when they look like they are out of it. If Calgary was playing like the Oilers i'd be pulling my hair out.

Winning a game like that without Glencross, Wideman, Giordano or Monahan feels great.

Yes, he was.

However, Byron was full marks for that assist. Game changer!

Ramo had better play next game, if not Hartley is a fool.

just finished watching the game on the pvr.

- was annoyed when cbc mentioned that baertchi was scratched to start the game, so had a relatively negative attitude going into the game.

- backlund did well all game defensively, and just when i was making up my mind that i couldnt' foresee any kind of offense from the guy, he sets up the game winner. Please, please, please let this be a momentum builder for the kid.

- our entire d looked great. when brodie is on, he is on. guy looked like a beast tonight.

- i know o'brien gets a lot of flack here, but i thought he had a solid, despite limited, game. i know he got a penalty on his big hit, but we need him to be a bruiser night in and night out to keep forwards thinking when coming across the blue line or against the boards.

- loved the physical pushback from guys like stajan.

we need ramo in the net more. berra is just too shaky.

Betting money says Hartley plays Ramo for a stretch of games while Berra works to improve his game with the coaches.

It's weird how things happen sometimes. Not only was that the Kings' first regulation loss in four weeks, it was the Flames first regulation win since the Caps game five weeks ago.

He also had that real good PK shift where he battled 3 Kings in the corner and killed off a good 20 seconds. That's the type of compete level that Hartley wants to see from Sven. It's not about the size, it's about the compete. Byron's second effort to get the puck out to Jones on the 1st goal after getting knocked over is another example.

Sven has that compete in spurts. He had for a good stretch after the first time he got sent up to the press box, but the last 2 games, it hasn't been there. That's fine, cause he's still young, but he has to learn this.

I think this was a real good game for him to watch, because he just saw how a guy who is shorter and smaller than him competed against one of the biggest teams in the league. Now he has a point of reference and all he has to do is do it now consistently.
