Meanwhile, the Oilers Blech! shill on Sportsnet are talking about the Oilers turning their season around to get to the playoffs with a win in Columbus. Duh...they are still behind the Flames...closing in, but still behind. Think I'll cheer for Columbus. Let Bryz get pulled. He is the second coming of....Bryz....apparently.
I don't worry too much about the games any more. Bouma was great. That's a good positive.

An expected result. Anaheim is a really good team, we never beat them in Anaheim, Flames are legitimately decimated with injuries, 4/5 of their best players are out, and Reto Berra is incapable of allowing 2 or fewer goals. Right now things are tough, but this is what we signed up for.

Meh, Flames are rebuilding, and the Ducks are an elite squad. Can't really be too surprised at the result.
That said, I really don't care for Hartley and the way he handles his bench, and IMO keeping him here is only going to hurt the franchise long-term. I find it hard to overlook the fact that most of the Flames' young players have disappointed under a coach who
a) has a reputation of leaning on his veterans, and
b) was out of an NHL gig for many years before his good buddy became a GM
Rebuild or not, Feaster and Hartley should be on thin ice. If not for Burke I would have some serious concerns about the organization's future.

Simmer tells a great story about when he was on the California Seals - easily one of the worst franchises in NHL history - and how they used to regularly beat the Habs, including two wins the year the Habs went 60 - 8 12 because Bowman used to treat the west coast trip as a holiday and all the Habs were hungover and sunburnt for the Seals games.

California moved to Cleveland that year. They may have been hungover, but sunburnt?
I doubt it.

You'll have to check with Simmer - maybe his memory has mixed the years a bit, but that's how he told it

So he was playing average....spent a game in the press box...and had looked much better since and is providing way more energy.
Yup sure was a mistake benching him.
Love the treatment Hartley gets lately. A player plays good and he is doing so in spite of Hartley. A player plays bad and it is because Hartley is ruining him. A player responds after Hartley scratches then (Baertchi and Bouma) and it has nothing to do with Hartleys coaching.

First goal was changed to D. Jones with assists to Smid and Bouma.

Bob Hartley Post-Game
Dominated by the Getzlaf-Perry-Penner line, had no answer.
Defends Berra, doesn't think any other goalie would have made a difference. [I beg to differ]
Need to play smart against bigger teams like Anaheim and LA.

Get Ward in there ASAP.

Ward hasn't shown much either. Not a lot of guys moving their way through the system and pushing for roster spots.
There was a reason Conroy was sent there to manage, because Ward didn't put the plan in place that he was supposed to.

Hard to say if a Quick or Lundqvist would have been able to get the win for the Flames or not today but they certainly wouldn't have let in some of the weak goals that Berra did and the game would have been a lot closer than it was.

Yes I agree they would have kept the game closer but a loss is still a loss so it doesnt seem like it was irrational for Hartley to say that

Agreed with the last few posters. What do you expect, for Hartley to come out of the dressing room and start throwing his players under the bus?

He seems to have no problem doing that if your name is Sven or Mikael.
