Hahahaha oh Jesus. Just when you thought this team realistically couldn't get much worse.

Hope they both recover quick, though I think we should all salute Money for playing two meaningless games with a broken foot, and actually looking damn good while doing it.

Backlund needs to sieze the opportunity. No excuses for him now and could go along ways to seeing if he is traded when Monahan is healthy.

I'm trying to understand the player's mind set on their desire for safety.
If the NHL and PA say the Flames can't force the skate guards on them.
Are the players not willing to voluntarily wear them during practice at least?
Were the guards messing with their skating ability? Bad bounces of the guard?

One thing I don't get about the whole skate protectors debate is why the skates themselves are doing such a bad job of protecting the feet? If there is a skate protector debate at all, doesn't that mean the actual skates could be improved to protect the feet better?

No doubt they could improve the skates to protect the feet better, but that might be at the expense of overall comfort/effectiveness. Dating myself, but does anyone else remember the Lange molded plastic boot? Probably better protection, but like skating in ski boots.

Does the wearing of the skate guards adversely affect the player's ability to play? Are the guards the substantial that they make it harder to skate?

Perfect opportunity for some of the prospects to show the coaches and management what they got.

Perhaps they can start making skates with Kevlar? Should add more protection, while keeping things relatively flexible.

I'm talking out my Aspik here but kevlar would only provide piercing resistance and what is needed for shot-blocking is shock absorption and transfer, no?

No idea. But I'm thinking if they're needed to improve the protection offered by the skate, the skate is flawed somehow.

When some leafs players were asked about the skate guards, most of them didn't like them. I think they said that the guards made the skates to stiff and it affected skating a bit.
