Not sure I want to watch them get cheated out of 2 points again next game cause of the Anaheim curse. Weird that they're playing at 2 (or 12?) pm on friday though.

I don't normally bitch about the refs, I understand sh***y reffing is part of the game, but the things that Chicago got away with tonight was ridiculous. How the Flames had more penalties than the Hawks is mind bottling.

Yeah.. I don't claim to have an expert opinion on goaltending at the NHL level but I think it is fair to assume that you would actually need to have your glovehand facing the shooter/puck as it is coming towards you in order to make the save...

And yes it is hard. That is why it is the NHL. Bottom line is the other 29+ starting goalies stop more pucks then Berra.
Stop making excuses for him. Those were stoppable pucks and he failed to stop them. Again.
|
Here's the problem of treating him like he's already a starter. He's not. He's getting used to the league and the Flames coaches have put the team on his shoulders like he's some instant workhorse.
It would be better to have an even load in terms of pressure between the goalies, especially if he has some mental issues to overcome with regard to closing the game. Better for both goalies.
At least let Rämö collapse in the third once in a while so that it doesn't feel like it's always Berra.

Berra is starting to turn the corner and is looking a lot more comfortable out there. Still has to get better.

You could blame Hudler, Stempniak, and Cammalleri for disgusting turn overs. Or you could blame Stajan for passing when he should have shot. Better yet you could blame the team for getting 1 shot in the third against a goalie playing his first NHL game.
But it is easier to blame a rookie that you have a hard on for.
He is a rookie. It is a rebuild. Mistakes will happen. If you can't handle that then turn off the tube for a couple of years.

worst part about this is now we hear about how great the hawks are and there is a reason they are cup champs when really they took a night off and the flames handed them the game

So stupid that the next game is on at 2PM.... I guess I'll catch the highlights when I'm off work.

But as he is turning the corner he is falling down and has to throw his pads up in desperation!

I can handle them that doesn't mean I will pretend they didn't happen...those guys can have some blame too. Look at the first page of this thread its 90% all on Berra and that is just wrong

I totally agree. It is completely unacceptable that he has had 10 of the last 11 starts. Even Kipper didn't carry that load. Really bad coaching.
I don't have much hope for Ramo. But he will probably start the second of the upcoming back to back, fail miserably as expected, then ride the pine for another 10 games.

This loss is squarely on Berra and Sven.
Bad first goal by Berra, and putrid third goal with 18 seconds left.
Sven misses a wide open net that would have made it 3 zip, coasts lazily back watching Sharp score the tying goal, then ices the puck and has a horrible clearing attempt on the third goal.
Having said that... 1, maybe 2 shots on goal in the entire third period???? Pathetic.

People can blame a lot of things.
At the end of the day, I choose to blame the ref. that should have been at least 2, if not 5 for boarding.
The Hawks are a great Team, the Flames played hard.
No doubt in my mind Baertschi feels terrible for how it all played out, and he'll learn from it (If Hartley lets him).

Seriously, like MMF already pointed out Sharp missed two easy open net chances. Cammy could be just as responsible for the one-timer he flubbed, but you seem to be obsessed with the rookie missing one chance.

Baertschi got his fair share of criticism. But a couple of bad shifts in an otherwise really good couple of weeks shouldn't have Calgary Flames fans questioning if he is a 'star' prospect.
You did. So expect to be called out on a Flames fan forum.

One thing is for certain: I will never blame Hudler. For anything. He's the magic elf. He's our little helper.

This loss is on the Calgary Flames for being completely outplayed for 15 minutes in the third period.
If the first thing a rookie hears from a coach after a game is "You cost us the game", then we are indeed in trouble.
