Saw this post on Reddit that might help some people using the Xbox voice commands:

Quote:
I have seen a lot of threads on folks having trouble with kinect and having to say commands over and over. Here are two key tips:

-The first thing which is mentioned a lot is to calibrate it with your speakers very loud and yes this is a big part of making it work more often.
-The MOST important, which is hard for a lot of people, is to speak at a very normal talking voice. You can't yell at the kinect and you have to just talk to it, like it were a person right next to you. At first it will seem very weird because you are talking almost at a low voice, but it will understand. Yesterday I was at a 60 percent success rate with commands and I was talking loudly. No joke, tonight I am at a 100 percent, simply because I talked in a normal voice, with the speakers playing tv at a decent volume as well.

TL;DR the 2 keys of success with kinect, calibration with speakers loud and talking in a very normal (almost kinda soft) conversational voice.

That was a while back now (relatively speaking) and the odd time I have been to a FS/BB/EB it sounds like they're mostly out. Or maybe holding back stock as part of our version of Black Friday this week?

Good luck though!

Yahtzee reviews the console exclusive games he hasn't gotten to play yet. Seemed pertinent to the thread.

Yahtzee also harmonizes with himself, which means I've seen about everything now.

Sounds like the Forza guys are hearing and responding to all the flak about the in app purchase system they have setup.

More details that I can summarize in the link

http://www.forzamotorsport.net/en-us/news/wir_11_27_13

Your Turn 10 team continues to value the input of our Forza community, and we keep a careful eye on in-game data that shows how players progress through our games. Based on the numbers we’ve seen from our first week of FM5, as well as feedback we heard directly from you, we’re in the process of making some changes to the Forza Motorsport 5 economy. But, while we’re putting the final touches on that, we want to make sure everyone continues having a great time with Forza 5. So, the following programs are going into effect this week:

Starting this Friday we’re offering a 50 percent discount (credits & tokens) on every car in the game. This discount is available to all players. Every car, from the 1970 Nissan Datsun 510 to the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO will be 50 percent off, so, if you’ve got your eye on something special on the car list, now’s the time to play and add them to your garage! This discount will be available between 12:01 a.m. Pacific on Friday, Nov. 29 and 11:59 p.m. Pacific on Sunday, Dec. 1.

Finally, we’re dramatically increasing the credit payout available to all Forza players in December via Forza Rewards, our ongoing loyalty program that rewards players with credits and cars for playing Forza games. You’ll be able to redeem these rewards in December but here’s a tip: The higher your Tier level reaches before December rolls around, the better the rewards you’ll be able to redeem, so get your play time in now and level up!

Haha, so all the fans that just bit the bullet to pay for awesome cars in the first week get screwed by everything being drastically reduced in price almost immediately.

What a train wreck that whole thing is turning out to be.

I figured the same thing. Seems no one ever goes to Target for electronics down here. They had several of both systems in stock this afternoon apparently.

The wife happened to bring a Xbox One home for me today to get me through my time of need this 'murican thanksgiving weekend ( I got crunched at hockey on Monday and strained my right oblique and various other things in that area pretty severely. How severe? on the trip back from hockey on monday night I hit a pretty big bump and saw spots. Damn near passed out going 75 mph.

Of course i have to wait for her to set it up and that won't happen until later tonight.

Do you think the same thing for any other store in the world when someone buys something and then it goes on sale a week or so later?

It is really nothing different than any other store in the world that looks to see what is selling, what's moving slow and making adjustments.

This sucks that my Turtle beach headset wont work with the new xbox controller.

I just started it up and did one update, then it wouldn't do anything, just shut off right after turning it on. Now it's doing another update....

Hopefully this wont take forever like the first one

EDIT..

Apparently after the update the little green bar comes across and fills up then shuts the system down. Nothing after that... I try to use the controller to turn it back on and it wont connect to the machine, I try the front of the machine and it just shuts off right away.

I'm getting frustrated to say the least

Are you plugged into a surge protector? Someone online had an issue with that.

Also read you can push power on the front, then once it starts hold the power button for 5 or 6 seconds and it will power down. Then unplug it for a few minutes... Try again..

I think a lot of the complaints and angst is the "free-to-play model" (and concerns about "pay to win" and harshly gated content) being shoved into full cost retail games now. At least they are responding to all the concerns about it. Apparently the gaming controversy de jour - some gamer feeds about it:

Not sure if I missed it or not.. Did you the power button fix? It's supposed to be a reset of some kind...
