There you go. Good thing fans aren't GM's as it's evident the league doesn't think he's as good as fans here do.

This is surprising. I figured someone would take him.
I guess this disposes of any Erat to PHX speculation. Klesla's salary stays on the books so they still can't make the trade.
It will also be Klesla's first trip to the AHL. He jumped from OHL to NHL.

LOL...seems 29 other NHL GMs think Klesla is a waste of a roster spot as well.
and 393 armchair GMs cry out loud.

Feaster wouldn't take Kesla that would mean his boy Butler would be in more danger of being the 7th D

I'm very curious to hear what this plan is. I can't imagine it involves him actually going to the AHL and the Coyotes paying him $3M to play there.
Theoretically, could he refuse to report to Portland and now go to Europe since he has cleared waivers and the Coyotes would be off the hook for his contract? Sort of like the Kovalchuk situation?

I could be wrong and may have misread the tweet posted yesterday. Maybe it was a plan for if he was claimed. But that doesn't make sense to me as that would be optimal for them with clearing cap room and all.

Well it looks like the Coyotes have assigned him to Portland and called up another kid.
So they will be paying for Klesla to play in the AHL.
Also, the one Coyotes Beat Reporter posted a tweet referring to DM's gamble "Paying Off" so it almost seems like they didn't want him picked up.

Pretty much the only interesting thing about this season for me anymore, haha. If it is a high pick, do they give us next year's instead and gamble a maybe lottery pick in the McDavid draft? Or let us potentially take two guys in the top 5 this year?
Picking up Reinhart and Ekblad in the same draft would be absurd.

For sure.. there's a reason why some of these guys go on waivers and for the Flames in a rebuilding years, they shouldn't just pick up anyone. Feaster needs some roster spots when he needs it. It is not some XBox or Playstation NHL20xx or some fantasy hockey that you can just pick any player you want.

Was wondering the same thing. I would have thought the Coyotes would have preferred he was claimed and free up some budget room.

As of right now, the AHL site is only showing transactions for Murphy and Brown being called up. No sign of Klesla being sent to the AHL. And it is being updated pretty quickly today.
I really doubt they put a $3M player in the AHL. There has to be something else at work here.

it's an interesting gamble for the Isles for sure ... if they are unable to climb in the standings, it would be hard to pass on a good pick. I doubt it'll be a top 3 pick, but I can easily see it go between 5 and 8. If you're Snow, do you pass on a guy like Draisaitl or dal Colle for the very, very, very slim chance of winning the McDavid sweepstakes? Especially when you're a team that is moving to a new arena and should actually win hockey games and reach the playoffs. It will be interesting to see how this one plays out. Maybe they can recoup a 1st at the deadline for Vanek if they're out of the playoff picture - that would make it easier for them to pass on the pick.

Ironic that the entire thread is just about all about Klesla and D'agostini is the guy that gets picked up.

Probably because Klesla is a 4th overall pick and D'Agostini is a 190th overall pick.
You sort of expect 6th rounders to show up on a waiver wire. You don't usually expect former franchise players to show up there.
