It is weird timing . lots of those guys havent played in a long time. wouldn't it backh the notion for the nhl on them saying we didn't know alot about head injurys like that at the time? Because we are just getting alot of new info becuase of the technology we have now?

The timing makes perfect sense... three months after the NFL settled? One can pretty much guarantee that the ambulance chasers began contacting anyone that played an NHL game within hours of that decision looking for names willing to attach themselves to this action. It perhaps says something that most of the ten willing to put their names to it were nobodies.

You'd think two of the Lindros would be in that list - but Gary Leeman? That means when he joined the Flames, he was damaged goods? Flames should sue the Leafs over that God awful trade!

You are jumping into extremely black and white conclusions based on nothing really. Unless you're a telepath, you have no idea what those players are thinking, and nothing that has been revealed about this case really gives much of an indication.

This was not a case that needed to be made at a specific time. Waiting to see how a related court case ends before filing your own is simply sensible, what ever your motivations are.

Also; yes, the case is about getting money. As far as I know, our society doesn't exactly frown upon people wanting to get money. This does not automatically mean that the money is the only motivation the players have. They could also genuinely feel that they have a right to get compensation, that they have been mistreated.

And while ambulance chasing lawyers are the scum of the earth, they do occasionally end up on the right side of justice. Plus we don't know who's idea this case was in the first place.

Also, it's not like the players are a hive mind, or that they've had the exact same situations throughout their careers. Some of them might be just in it for the money, some of them just because they feel it's an important cause to fight for, that this issue needs to be talked about. Heck, they might even feel that just giving the NHL a bit of a scare over the issue is worth it, even if they never get anything. Some could be in for several reasons. Some because their friend asked for them to be a part of it.

Bottom line: some here are very quick to judge the players without knowing absolutely anything about them and their experiences in hockey. What ever, that's your right, but I find it sort of annoying.

Hockey Central@SNHockeyCentral4m

.@reporterchris: 200 additional players have joined the initial group in the case-action concussion lawsuit against NHL.

Sooo...if the players win the lawsuit against the NHL would the settlement payment come out of HRR? The cap would then have to go down....

haha that would be so awesome. The current players are way overpaid. Most of the guys in the suit probably need it a lot more than the current guys. Income redistribution.

or is this just more players who saw very minimal NHL time and are jumping on the money train?

I think their collective bargaining history suggests you're wrong.

I would wager that number is multiplied by 5 or more by the time this settles out.

True but to think these fellas don't communicate or know each other is just as bad. In the big scheme of things the "community" of guys that played in the NHL isn't that big.

One person has left the suit:

Pierre LeBrun@Real_ESPNLeBrun15m
Not sure if this is out there or not but Rick Vaive has pulled out of the lawsuit vs the NHL.

Pierre LeBrun@Real_ESPNLeBrun3m
Spoke with Vaive's lawyer. To be clear, he has requested to remove himself from the lawsuit. There is paperwork to make that happen.

My guess is that Vaive is concerned about being blacklisted for an NHL job. The likely scenario is that the lawyers will be taking 20% of the money and he's probably left with a few thousand in hand at the expense of never working in hockey again. He's had second thoughts now that it's public. Not a fan of the guy as it seems weasley.
