Surprise how many people are writing off Breen after only 4 NHL games. This guy needs to be in the line-up for the rest of the season in order to find out if he has what it takes to be an NHL player. When the guy is that big you give him the benefit of the doubt. Trade Butler and/or O'Brien in order to give this guy more playing time.

Blatant size fetish spotted. He's getting an opportunity because he's been in the system for several years and has looked good in Abby.

everything from coaching staff in Abby and even management up here have in some way said nothing but positive things about Breen... especially his progression from year 1 elc to the 2nd, then from the 2nd to the third etc etc
During his last stint with the big club he looked like a boy amongst men. He doesn't look NHL ready at all.
Nope he doesn't look ready but it appears the Flames want to give him a decent look first before they put him through waivers and risk losing him. Nothing wrong with that.
Hey Chris, you're being called up and will possibly see some time with the worst defense group in the entire league. If you are EVER going to make it in the NHL, this is your chance…don't waste it. Heck, even Adam Pardy is still playing.

I hope he plays better this time around. The last time, I was not impressed but I understand because he never played in the NHL before until this season. I guess I'll give him at least 5 games or more before I make my judgement. Also his last game, he just got off the injury list so I give him a mulligan I guess.
I can't imagine any team claiming him off waivers and giving him a guaranteed NHL roster spot. I'd think Smith is more likely to get claimed than Breen.

Can't Smith be sent down without going through waivers as he's already passed once?

I don't believe so. He was originally waived on September 29, but wasn't sent down until October 20. Then he was recalled on October 26 and has been with the Flames since. So, that's over 50 days total on the NHL roster.
Waivers expire after 30 days or 10 NHL games played, so I believe he'll need to clear waivers again to be sent down.

I agree.
Some people said SOB would provide some needed grit on the team. I haven't seen anything from him in that regard.
Smid has ruffled more feathers in a much shorter period of time.
I really can't believe I am defending O'Brien here.. but he has showed some grit on this team. He also has stood up for a teammate.
Still, I hope that Breen manages to stay healthy and get settled in enough to push O'Brien off the team. He just hasn't been good enough. Sarich was much better as a 6th/7th defencemen, as he was more competent defensively and showed a more constant grit level rather than the spurts you see from O'Brien (though it was nice to see him stick up for a teammate, and I give him full props for that).

I don't mind SoB, but not at his contract. A player of Breen size can and should be given more chance to make the team, as they say you can't teach size. Even if he turns into a Hal Gill that's not bad for a lower pairing d-man, with the Flames having one of the smaller defense in the NHL he could help.
