I was at Southcentre today, and I checked out the 'Playstation 4 Experience.' It's setup next to EB Games.
They show a quick trailers for PS4 and then make you sign a waiver, as you're on camera (thus, no camera or video aloud, as some of the games on the other side are not released).
I mostly went in to just watch. I played a fighting game. I want to say it was called "Justified" or something like that. You picked DC heroes (Superman, Joker, Batman, etc) and just go about kicking each other's ass. It was fun. I won...despite not knowing WTF I was doing.
I haven't owned a gaming console, since the PS2. But after doing some research, seeing both in action and playing both...I think I'm leaning towards to PS4. The price seems right, I was happy with my PS2 and I'm not a huge Microsoft fan. Plus, I need a new Blue-Ray player.
Just my thoughts. I don't claim to know the ins and outs. I'm just a consumer looking to get back into console gaming.

Finally got everything set up in the man cave. I really wish Sony would include an IR port in their consoles so you can get Harmony remotes to work without adapters.

Does your STB interfere with the venting of your receiver? Normally those things get fairly warm and they've got all kinds of vents at the top.

Nope as there are cooling vents on the side as well as the top. Never had an issue as you can feel heat from the receiver but it doesn't get very hot.
Both of these consoles are so much quieter and operate much cooler than last gen. The XB1's blue-ray drive is louder than the PS4's but when the drive isn't operating you can't even tell the console is on ever. You can at times hear the PS4 when the fan kicks into high but it's almost as quiet as the XB1 most of the time.

Watched my buddy mess around with his new Xbone, playing around with the voice commands and COD and left completely un impressed. I won't be putting the cash down for a Xbone or PS4 any time in the immediate future. I'm sure the day will come when I can't hold out any longer but it seems to be a completely under whelming generation jump to me.

You do realize you don't have to yell anything at the xbox right? I've used the voice commands about 2 times so far. I just use the controller...
It still works the same way the 360 works if you want it to..
Snapping the tv to the flames game so I can check when the intermission is over while playing a game is great.
I have zero complaints so far.

I think his point is that they are making such a big deal out of it and really its a bit of a novelty that isn't really useful (to me anyway) I just think they are barking up the wrong bush a bit with all this media and kinect stuff

I'm glad they are or I would have two consoles that are exactly the same as the PS4 in comparison is a bare bones console. I'm glad the XB1 offers a different experience for variety reasons alone. I'm not sure how much I will use the motion stuff but I personally love being able to turn the console on and off without having to have a controller in my hand or walking up to the hardware. IMO in a year or two there is going to be some pretty cool stuff coming to owners of the XB1 while PS4 owners are stuck playing essentially the same stuff as last gen only with better graphics. Eventually gaming has to move forward and Sony isn't doing that this gen.

The Xbone moves gaming forward by letting you plug your cable box into it? Otherwise the two systems are nearly the same if you purchase the PS camera and a few software updates...

We all know that if accessories aren't included they never get fully utilized and the PS camera will never have the games or features of Kinect. It's why Microsoft included it.
Let's call a spade a spade. The XB1 does a lot more than the Xbox 360 did at launch and the PS4 actually does less than the PS3 at launch. It is what it is and I don't know why some of you guys continue to argue. Wether Kinect is for you or not is one thing but at least it's a different experience than last gen.

So now that both consoles have launched which post launch games is everyone looking forward to? It doesn't look like we're getting much in the near future.

Or you could just, you know, use the controller. How dare they try to innovate!
Turning on the Xbox, TV, and stereo with one voice command is seriously cool. I have actually found the voice commands quite useful for the most part. It can be a bit finicky at times though.

Titanfall is probably one of the bigger ones. Though there has been some chatter about it being 720p on the Xbone - it'll also be on the 360 and PC.

The motion control fad has moved gaming backwards if anything...while microsoft was trying to cash in with kinect games the past few years Sony was moving forward with things that matter like AI and storytelling. Games like the Last of Us are examples of gaming moving forward not this crap:
