I think the fact that they decided to leave out flashbacks entirely is going to screw the show later on, or at least confuse viewers greatly, especially with the series still unfinished, and some backstory/flashback/previous occurence will likely Have to be explained at some point in order for things to makes sense. What if L + R = J turns out to be true.. won't make much sense without a little revisiting. But hey, who wouldn't want to see Sean Bean reprise his role, albeit as his younger self (somehow).
Barristan has to talk about Rhaeager with Daenerys at one point. Having a badass honourable person talk highly about Rhaegar should at least have people questioning the events...at least for those who remember who Rhaegar is.
And Jojen has said he saw Robert's Rebellion with his greensight in the show. If necessary he could tell more than just the Knight of the Laughing Tree story. Or have Bran learn about it when his greensight becomes more powerful. And who knows what Jojen's father will be able to tell if we ever get to meet him. So while I think it's too bad that the viewers couldn't have had more clues (Tower of Joy, House of the Undying) they still realistically have 4 years before Jon is actually revealed to be part Targaryen, if at all, and ways to drop hints before it.
I have a feeling that Howlen Reed comes into play after the North rises again with Jon Snow reborn as the Lord of Light. He will reveal his true heritage and that will lead him to fight for his claim to the Iron Throne and eventually take it over and the circle is complete when he marries Danny. End series.

ADwD is out in mass paperback, finally. I got a copy to add to my existing paperbacks, and bought a new set of 5 paperbacks that doesn't look so beat up.
Seeing those 4 paperbacks stacked on top of that behemoth hard cover irritates me, as that's exactly how my collection looks
Mine is even worse - the first 2 in paperback, the 3rd in trade paperback, the 4th in hardcover and the last as an ebook. I like matching sets on my book shelf but got too impatient to wait for the paperbacks by book 3 so just gave up.
Has anyone picked up the new Dangerous Women anthology that includes the Martin novella The Princess and The Queen, dealing with the Targaryen civil war following the death of Viserys I?
I've read the Princess and the Queen. I'm a sucker for all things A Song of Ice and Fire related so I liked it but I could understand if it wasn't everyone's cup of tea.
