Would be the worst coach in Flames history but thankfully he has Greg Dogbert to thank.

Ha ha ha. You should retract that post as it makes your knowledge of hockey and the history of this organization look poor.

Darn it. Brent is sure bitchslapping me with all his coaching skills on another NHL team right now.....
Yeah and your assessment of Kipper being washed up and wanted him gone back in 2008 kinda blew up in your face..... hahaha
Maybe you could retract those posts.... oh wait you posted about 20 kipper hate posts a day back then. Pretty hard to edit those out.

Well, you were partially correct with your assessement of Dave King. Good coach.
Here is the list of Calgary's coaches and their winning %. Brent actually ranks 5th, but check out Keenan. This season hasn't been added yet as it's not finished. Also of note, Brian Sutter the Jack Adams winner, ranks ever so slightly ahead of Hartley so far.
Terry Crisp .669
Mike Keenan .585
Darryl Sutter .581
Dave King .576
Brent Sutter .557
Reiser .552
Badger .548
Jim Playfair .524
Al MacNeil (not interim) .522
Guy Charron .469
Pierre Page .463
Don Hay .463
Greg Gilbert .442
Brian Sutter .439
Bob Hartley (48 games) .438

Win %. 11 of those coaches didn't get the extra point in OT.

I'm not really sure how to account for OTL in terms of ranking them, just figured win% was better than points % for comparisons sake. Those 10 loser points would factor into points %. It's still an OTL and not a tie. Crisp's point % was over .700 in 88-89.

I just thought that since Playfair's one season had more wins than any of Brent's, you would expect to see him above.
I think treating loser points as 1 is somewhat fair as some coaches got a point for ties when there was no OT but then you may also have to seek out and remove OT wins.

Sure, but he's the only guy who can still see an increase or decrease unless he's fired. It's not definitive yet.

I'm going to tell you guys a secret. Even the coaching is in rebuild mode. I don't think Hartley can maintain a job on a losing record for very long (2.5 season max).
I hope we get see troy ward coach the flames at some point.

Same thing still applies no matter where you make the cutoff. Your way just makes him look "less worse".

I can't disagree. The more games he gets in a rebuild, it becomes less likely that he will outdo any of his predecessors. I just hope the Flames are smart enough to keep the players he develops, kind of like how Marty St. Louis credits Brian Sutter for rounding out his game.

So where did we land on this. I heard he hates Sven and Backlund, but loves Monahan and Colborne. Has been forced to play Brodie and has a man crush on Jackman. Does this make him the right coach or not, what's the verdict?

Russell has been good. Brodie has been up and down, but is a mainstay now. Whether or not that's due to Hartley's one game scratching is still just speculation.
Wideman is still an adventure in his own zone. Sutter wouldn't have any hair left if he was coaching this squad. Stajan is having one of his best stretches in Calgary as well and Cammalleri is also thriving in terms of production.
I still think SOB brings more to the team than Butler does.

I think young players need to know exactly what is expected of them and be given steady minutes. With underperforming prospects, I believe that they need an opportunity to play under another coach before deeming them busts.

It's no coincidence that Hartley has the worst record so far, because he also has the worst roster the Flames have ever had (at least relative to the competition).
Playfair had the same roster as D.Sutter and B.Sutter had essentially the same quality of roster that Keenan had. Those records are directly comparable IMO, where as Hartley's has little basis of comparison in that list.
This is really the first rebuild this team has had. Sure, we had to trade players in the past due to financial issues, but there was always a struggle to try and keep the team competitive in the present.

Flames hockey was so fun to watch the first ten games or so but ever since he started putting people in the pressbox it seems as though everyone is so afraid to make a mistake it has stifled their offensive creativity. Now they are just a bundle of nerves gripping the stick too tight and making mistakes all over the place.
It's gross

He seems to be getting max effort from some veterans that will likely be gone this trade deadline which will increase their value he seemed to do the same for bouw and iggy so I'm ok with him if it means some teams will pay top dollar for some of our vets because of his coaching style
