A guy that turned 21 a month ago, has played less then 50 NHL games probably isn't running out of chances. You're really just embarrassing yourself suggesting that. 50 NHL games is nothing, guys get more then that to prove themselves. There are 7 guys in the 2011 draft who have put up more points then Sven, I guess everyone besides those 7 should be cut loose by their respective clubs. He'll run out of chances in two years, maybe.
No wonder this team was so hesitant to go into rebuild mode, a lot of Flames fans have forgotten what it's like to draft and develop players. This team is trying to be a club that drafts players and take their time with them, turn them into NHL guys, that doesn't happen overnight, that doesn't happen in one season. It's really ridiculous to see guys like Rerun go running to a thread to bash a young player as soon as it's possible. It's going to be a long season in a year or two when Sean Monahan has a predictable struggle and only puts up a handful of goals in 82 games. I can already see the thread title "What happened to Monahan, is he done?" With posters like this running to say we should jettison him now, as soon as possible. Unless you draft in the top couple of spot, and sometimes even when you do, you have to turn these kids into NHL guys. That takes several seasons, that takes hundreds of pro games in the AHL and the NHL.
I shudder to think what's going to happen to Gaudreau and Emile Poirier when they have their struggles in the coming seasons.

Its a known fact that Burke doesn't like Sven and Burke is now the big dog on this club.... because of that I suspect his time here may be short. If he doesn't pick up his socks, soon, he'll be riding the Heat bus to games.
Last year he only lasted 20 games with the Flames after scoring 3 goals and 7 assists.... and Burke wasn't even here then to evaluate his performance. This year he hasn't improved much... and certainly not offensively.
With Burke, given Sven's current development pace, here he won't last two years.... and I say this regretfully because I'm a Sven supporter. I just wish he would hurry up and get his act together.

It's a known fact Burke sometimes motivates through the media, which is exactly what he was doing with Sven. He did the same thing with Kadri while he was on the Leafs too. Burke is pretty good with knowing how to motivate players, Darryl Sutter would call out players in the media too, it works with some.
Baertschi had 8 points in 18 games, that's not bad buddy. One goal is not the greatest but he's 21, and I don't know if you've noticed but the Flames are really trying to make Sven into a complete player, they're judging him on more then his offense.
Baertschi had a great game last night vs the Jets but it wasn't because of the one assist he put up, it was because he was strong on the forecheck, played a complete game and was the first back in the Flames zone many times.
You have a very narrow simple mind about these things unfortunately.
Hurry up and get his act together?!?!?! He's played less then 50 games, he's 21.
Jesus H Tap Dancing Christ. What a stupid thing to say.

Well then lets just hope Burke doesn't participate in ruining one of our best prospects because he's a curmudgeonly jerk.
You're also conveniently ignoring the fact that Hartley was horribly utilizing Sven before he was sent down to Abbottsford. 4 minutes a game at some points. He wasn't even playing CLOSE to a level warranting that little time. We can only hope that management doesn't choose the opinion of a horrible coach over a talented young player.

To be honest, I think it's pretty obvious Rerun just doesn't get it when he says he hopes Baertschi gets his act together after what was, not just a great NHL game for him but a very good NHL game overall.
Just a guy running to a simple stat line and trying to fill in the blanks.

There's a lot of "shiny new toy" syndrome on the forum lately. Monahan! .. Sven who?! ... Gaudreau! ... Sven redundant!
It's so strange. Sven is averaging .5 PPG while being totally wasted the first part of last year. I'd say he's doing pretty well.

The worst offense was "Backlund? Corban Knight!" Forgetting Knight is one year younger then Backlund and has a lot to prove.

No, last year, he started the season with four scoreless games, then he was injured and missed 11 games. When he returned, he had 1 point in 6 games before being sent down.
He was recalled after the trade deadline, was scoreless in his first 3 games back, then went on the longest rookie scoring streak of the season, getting 9 points in his final 7 games.
He had 1 point in 10 games before being sent down. He had 9 points in 10 games after getting recalled.

The thing to consider last year for Sven is his depth positioning when the season started. At left wing the flames had tanguay, cammalleri, glencross, cervenka, comeau, and baertschi. Of all those guys, Sven was the only one who could be sent down to the minors without having to pass through waivers. He was playing fine with limited minutes and no powerplay time... Hard for a rookie to produce in those circumstances. Later on in the season when players were traded and minutes opened up for him to get his chance, he played great.
When the coach shows confidence in him and he is given the opportunities that a young scoring winger needs to produce, he has not disappointed. He's going to get on a roll again here cause Hartley is showing more trust in him and giving him more minutes.

You do realize those came in 2 different stints? He was much better at the end of last year and thats where he picked up most of those 10 points.
Have you not been watching last 2-3 games? he's battling on the boards, skating hard back into D zone, has picked up 3 assists in 3 games. He's coming along just fine.

Ok... I'll remove the first 5 games because he played too well in them...
With those 5 removed, it pro-rates over 82 games to:
9G 30A 39PTS
instead of
13G 27A 40PTS
Glad we got that cleared up Rerun.

The 1 point in 10 games is reflective of his skill.
The 9 points in 10 games should not count.

Whoa there big boy. Don't get your panties in a knot.
All I said was that if he's not performing up to expectations (1 goal in 18 games?) here in Calgary he may soon find himself performing in Abbotsford... which given the fact, as you so eloquently stated, that he's only 21 years old and has less than 50 games under his belt, is not totally beyond the realm of possibilities.
So pull that thumb out of your mouth, dry those tears, and carry on.

It's called panicking & it's eactly what happened in Edmonton in the last 6 or 7 years.
Sort of a vicious cycle; team management pumps the tires of some of it's young prospects in order to placate the masses, the media glums on to & hounds those prospects relentlessly knowing everyone wants daily info on their development, they get rushed into the bigs due to pressure from the fans & lack of ability of the franchise to have established players filling roster holes, then they are thrown in the meat grinder with swelled heads due to all the hype, then fail to live up to the hype & struggle for years.
Wash, rinse, repeat!

Actually, you also said that Burke hates Sven, that Sven is running out of chances, that Sven's game is not improving, and you misrepresented his stat line (claiming he got sent down despite 10 points in 20 games, when he got sent down after scoring 1 point in 10 and scored the other 9 after being called up at the end of the season). It wasn't very hard to see what some people took issue with, all of which you conveniently skirted.

Baertschi is scoring at 0.444 PPG this season.
Do I need to reiterate that these are perfectly acceptable for a player with his level of experience?
Fine.
Henrik Sedin had 29 points in his first 82 games (.353 ppg).
Daniel Sedin had 34 points in his first 75 games (.453 ppg).
Vincent Lecavalier had 28 points in his first 82 games (.341 ppg).
Joe Thornton had 7 points in his first 55 games (.127 ppg).
Joe Thornton had 48 points in his first 136 games (.353 ppg).
Brad Marchand had 42 points in his first 97 games (.433 ppg).
...this list can go on and on and on and on.
Be calm, be patient.

Crosby had 102 points in 81 games.
Ovechkin had 106 in 81 games.
Malkin had 85 points in 78 games.
That must mean that Baertschi is a bust!

See the words "might be"?
As for the the stat line, you got me there. I forgot he was injured and was send down after 9 or 10 games. By the way, what ever happened to the Sven that came back and scored 9 or 10 points in 9 games? MIA is what I think.
I also suspect Hartley, Feaster, and Burke are wondering the same thing.
