Monahan with the clutch shootout winner. Some kids just have it, and he's one of 'em.
Loved seeing Berra playing aggressive in the shootout, going way out to challenge, but having the athleticism to retreat back. After watching Kipper struggle for so many years in the shootout (although he did get better), Berra looked way more comfortable out there. Yes he got deked pretty bad on the Wheeler goal, and was caught cheating with the paddle down on the Ladd goal (hope he learned his lesson), but you could see the confidence build with each save.

I was yelling at Hartley to use MONAHAN since the 3rd shooter. Lord behold, 2 d-men and a few vets later he finally comes to his senses. His shooter choices were an absolute joke. Brodie is great, but he's not a deeker, wth? Russell? And I thought Brent used to suck at that.. That list was just brutal. Hartley's really earning his lumps right now, some pretty questionable coaching to say the least.
I don't know if anyone saw the pre-season game in Edmonton but Berra shutout all the kids in that comeback shootout win and right then I had a good idea that we might have a solid goalie for the shootouts on our hands at last. So I wasn't overly surprised by his performance. Great, nonetheless!
@ Huds half way off the bench during Mono's shot, haha I saw that and pointed it out to everyone in the room (half were cheering on WPG), "See there? That's the future face of our franchise, and he's gonna score right now. See, even look at Hudler, he knows!" Haha. Great moment.
Berra let in a few at the end but those rebounds came out perfectly onto their sticks, which was ridiculous. Would be hard to control those. Still above .900, I believe!
Great game!

The shootout is a stupid side-show. If the NHL really wants to reduce the amount of games that go to a shootout, then remove the loser-point for losing in the shootout. It would encourage both teams to go for it in the 4 on 4 OT rather than gamble on the circus side-show.

I don't get Steinberg and Leslie's love affairs with the shootout, especially as Flames fans.
How many exciting shootouts have the Flames been involved in? Maybe 4?
Tonight, the one in Vancouver where Lundmark won it, the comeback in Detroit completed by Jokinen, maybe the win vs Vancouver at home when Iggy deked Luongo out of his shorts?

Pardy laughs off glass-breaking, helmet-stealing, beer-dumping incident in Chicago
Quote:
“It was a hard one to explain,” conceded Pardy. “I’m still trying to figure out what happened. When I look at the tape now, I can’t help but laugh. (The helmet-stealer) was a little fired up, I’m sure.
“It’s good to see fans involved in the game, but ...
“The picture of the guy is TOO funny. I can’t be mad at him. Just the look on his face. It was just hilarious.”
|
Quote:
“I’ve kinda let it just fly under the radar, haven’t played a whole lot of attention to it,” laughed ex-Flame Adam Pardy of his unscripted moment of Blooper reel fame on Nov. 6th. “They’re talking about doing some Helmet Party here or something. I don’t know what’s going on there. It’s just a funny sequence. I’m sure it’ll be highlight for a while.
“My buddies are still talking about it. I’m sure they’re going to be making fun of me about it for a while.”

Man, Hudler's stock is pretty damn high along with Cammy's and his chemistry that he's got going on with Sean is a huge part of why I want him to stay. Sean stays with Jiri and family.
I just don't think it was by chance that Hudler went over the boards like that. It probably was when Monahan did the little head-fake, when Jiri was like "Oh, there it is - and the goalie bit for it." *hops over boards*
It must have been something they talked about earlier, how Hudler read it so easily. If Hudler stays, I feel like Sean's development would be a lot better if Hudler gets re-signed than if he didn't.

No kidding. After Sven went, we were yelling "PICK MONAHAN!!" at the TV over and over.
Did anyone else notice Hartley during the bench reaction on Monahan's goal? He looked over at Gelinas and Cloutier and seemed to say "I told ya so!"

Oh great, so now losing in the shootout costs a team 2 points instead of 1. That's not any better.

I sure hope he didn't say that. Why the crap would you put him in the 8th round then?

If that's what he said, he could have simply been calling what shot Monahan would use.

To me, if he did indeed say that, I interpreted it as Coutier/Gelinas not wanting to use Monahan earlier. But I don't know. He's mostly facing away from the camera, so it's hard to tell.

I don't see people's beef With the shootout. Unless you're arguing it from a Flames perspective haha.
I had a room full of mostly non hockey fans (and I mean don't give a the slightest hint of a damn about it) and even they were taking notice and interest in the outcome once it got into the SO. One remarked that it was way better than the OT that preceeded it.

Too many teams deliberately play to get to the shootout, rather than win it in OT. I'd like to think my suggestion would raise the stakes a little.

Interesting that Backlund was benched for that bad shift, and Butler keeps piling on the minutes after parking his fat ass in front of Berra causing a goal. I'm not even a Butler hater like most on here, but what the hell were he and Wideman doing there?
