I don't really know. I found this on the web:
http://people.howstuffworks.com/gove...ics/mayor1.htm
It sounds like some mayors do have less authority and are more of figureheads, if that is what the council wants (and the mayor is essentially just a part of the council, but with some special powers). The councilors, it seems, want a weak-mayor system for now.

You know you've got a problem when even booze is trying to distance itself from you.

Iceberg is just looking for some exposure. He didn't mention their brand, they are just trying to capitalize on this circus.
Well done with the grey goose under the desk. I have a bottle of Baily's and a bottle of Banff Ice in my desk from Christmas. I don't think it's that unusual.

That's not entirely true.

A police photo linking Toronto Mayor Rob Ford to an empty flask of Iceberg Vodka has gotten the attention of its Newfoundland distillers.
The photo was included in search warrant documents, and shows the vodka bottle which was recovered by police in Douglas Ford Park in Etobicoke, Ont.
The bottle is believed to have been used by Ford and his friend Alexander (Sandro) Lisi, who were observed entering the park on Aug. 13.
Lisi is the mayor's friend, occasional driver, and a suspected drug dealer.
Police allege they watched Ford and Lisi meet on a footpath into the park, named after the mayor's father.
The men "made their way into a secluded area of the adjacent woods where they were obscured from surveillance efforts and stayed for approximately one hour," police said in search warrant documents.
After the men left in separate vehicles, police scoured the area and found the empty bottle of Iceberg Vodka and juice where the men had met.

I stand corrected, thanks.
Thinking about it, it is still a publicity thing in my mind. Does Iceberg really need to say anything and draw attention to a grainy photograph? They sell a product and people abuse it, everyone knows that. It just seems sort of obscure to me.

Could you imagine the grand circus if he was the Canucks mayor, umm i mean Vancouver's. That would be outstanding.
They said on the Global lastnight in spite of all this craziness and the multiplying verbal screw up's his popularity amongst Torontonians has gone up 5%.

I suspect that rise in popularity is more from the entertainment value he's providing, not so much his popularity as a great politician.

They said that last night?
That was the initial reaction after police confirmed the crack video was real, but it has since come back down from the rage video and the all I can eat comments. In fact I believe it's lower than before the scandal now.
A quick search has confirmed that was reported from the 2-5th. I can't find any new polls now, but all I'm hearing on CBC is that the initial spike has subsided.
I think you (or Global) got some old news. That was widely reported in the beginning, but it's changed over the last 10 days or so.

Well not a publicity grab so much, but publicity in the sense they are trying to protect their brand. Very common to try and get away from bad stories when your product is involved. The same way the councilors were trying to distance themselves from him before by making a show of not listening to him. Of course it's a political decision, but not necessarily in a selfish sense, they are just trying to show people they don't stand with him.

Zero alcohol at the workplace here...be it in your desk or at any social function in the office. Gotta go somewhere else to booze it up!

Hahahaha!
That's the only good thing about all this - I've gotten quite a kick out of the wit displayed here. Mind, Ford and this situation leave things wide open for all of it. His behavior drives me nuts, that it's in the news constantly, drives me nuts but it has been good for a laugh or six.
