Default Stempniak Calls out Team

Quotes from different Flames after the 7-3 loss to Dallas.

“I guess, if anyone was sort of kidding themselves and thought, ‘Hey we didn’t play that bad, we were in it until the end,’ you just need to look in the mirror now. We got completely outplayed in every facet of the game,” said Flames right-winger Lee Stempniak.

“If you’re being honest with yourself, you know we haven’t played well and we need to be better.

“That’s the start of it. And if it takes hitting rock-bottom like tonight for it to click in, then maybe that’s a positive out of it.

“But I don’t think that should be the case.”

“It’s only good if we use it,” said Flames defenceman TJ Brodie. “It’s happened for the past I don’t know how many games, where we get down one, two, three goals and then we start to play. We have to come out and play that way right from the start of the game.”

“We all play a kids’ game and all we have to do is work,” added left-winger Sven Baertschi. “There’s been times where we didn’t do that. That’s something you don’t want in your game, to creep in. We have to get that cleaned out as soon as possible. We know — we showed before — that we can win hockey games. We’ve just got to play for 60 minutes.”

Just really like something about this quote from Sven. He is starting to show flashes again, if he can get a goal Saturday I think we may see him go on another one of his streaks.

Should probably just give a few choice quotes, and link to the article. Copy/pasting the whole thing is a big no-no

This game was painful to watch. Hopefully they humiliate the Oilers tomorrow to make up for it.

Yeah, I like that quote... seems like things are starting to click for him with regards to the what is being asked of him and his work ethic. And unlike up north, he's taking the scratches as a chance to improve, rather then pout and cry about it.

Pretty sure at first he did pout, but man'd up and realized.. I hope anyways.

He was trying to make plays last night which was nice, and my only hope is that he starts shooting more. Needs to open up those passing lanes for himself. Has to learn from Iggy, I thought Iggy became a great passer because of the threat of him shooting, keeps the d honest.

quotes are nice.

let's see how they follow up the past few craptastic performances against the team's biggest rival on Sat. That will tell us much, much more than any quote.

The only positive I could find in that game last night was Sven was noticeable every time he was on the ice. I think he is poised to breakout soon

His hit on Eakin in the corner made me so happy. I don't like that dude for some reason. Only one thing, I wish he would shoot more often instead of trying to force plays. But other than that I really liked his play last night.

He was the genesis of much of the Flames offense last night. He was generating a lot of speed through the neutral zone, which created several opportunities for him.

The chances are starting to become more frequent - he'll break out soon.

And yes, he needs to shoot more.

Well at least these guys aren't offering generic, cookie cutter quotes we've been used to in the past. Now we see if there's actually a response from the team.

Quotes show that they are thinking right, but they need to translate that into action.

Baertschi has steadily been improving in his overall play since his last scratch. I even didn't mind Backlund's effort last game. He was involved (at least more involved as compared to the other players) in the play.

They have to find a way to break out of the first period funk and take it one step at a time. Set the tone physically early. We have got players with wheels. Hopefully Jones gets his confidence up and gets more involved now that he scored last night.

They did breakout of the pretty long powerplay drought and are now looking better moving the puck around the zone and skating.

I think this is increasing his trade value. Stempniak is a warrior who doesn't like to lose, other teams will see that and I think might even want to pick him up now. I like Stempniak but I think his time on this team is coming to an end.....and I'd bet it's going to be soon.

I think of all the pending UFA's Stempniak is the most likely to be retained. At this point I want all pending UFA's traded though. Stempniak's value is likely a 2nd + decent prospect or multiple 2nd's

I honestly don't see the point in retaining any of our UFAs. If the reason is to reach the cap floor, that's easy because there is a HUGE crop of UFA's this coming summer that the Flames can over pay for. If it's for leadership, I don't think he's shown much leadership but again, there are tons of players who are going to be later on in their careers that can provide that in the UFA crop.

None of our potential UFA's provide anything that can't be replaced in the summer. We aren't good with these guys, trade them and if they are that important to the team they can be re-signed in the off season

I agree, but from what I've seen of Feaster's GMing strategy he doesn't let ANYONE hit UFA. You're either traded or kept.

Which is a smart strategy, why let anyone walk and get nothing. Even if it's a 6th round pick or something, it's worth getting something instead of nothing.

Stempniak is a character guy who can chip in and play a defensive game too if need be. I'm sure other teams see that and will want to get him on the team. I could see lower seeded teams now who think they can make a push wanting him now. He is a good player but I don't think he's good enough to be here beyond this season
