This guy has some nerve huh.
Sad news is the Dolphins will probably cave. The could probably use the guy. I hope they don't though.

Wow. He's really put the Fish in a tough spot. First he quits on his team with no notice. Now, the team's off to a horrible start and he informs them he wants back in. I really hope they say no. At the very least trade him to someone - there is no way you can let this jerk back in your locker room.

Dophins have to cave, running their offense 65.5% of the time on the ground (most in the NFL the last 2 years) they NEED Ricky.

It would be nice if he didn't come back because the Dolpins have a real shot @ 0-16.

I don't blame the guy... The pot he smokes must be really expensive. I'm sure he needs the jack.

No way he plays for Miami again - they take him back and trade him... they can probably get something at least half-decent in return (at least anything better than what they currently have) and we all know there are teams out there willing to take a chance on the guy.

If Miami has him play for them, they are stupid and deserve to lose every single game this season.

Guess his inner peace or whatever he was doing wasn't as important as the almighty dollar.

Isn't Ricky still facing a year long suspension for the drugs in the first place. If he did come back when would the suspension actually start and will it be for a full 16 games or just the remainder of the season.

So what happens to his signing bonus if he gets suspended? Does he still have to pay it back? If not, this sounds like a pretty smart move on his part: come back, fail your first drug test, and go back to your tent/sack O ganja in Australia.

Miami should send him to Mile HIGH Stadium to play for the Broncos.

There was talk a few weeks ago, I thought, that he would have to declare bankruptcy because he doesn't have the money to pay back the signing bonus.

Doesn't the marijuana busts put him out of the lineup without pay - but not having to return the signing bonus - for a year?

I think that's his real point. Failing a drug test (which is automatic if he is un-retired) carries an indefinite suspension for Ricky (probably one year). Realistically, the guy would have been better off showing up to training camp puffing on a joint than doing what he did (to the tune of 8.6 million!). He would have got the year off just the same, so it seems like his agent failed him pretty miserably.

That's the million (or 8.6 million) dollar question right now. I read an article back in mid-September that suggested Ricky could declare bankruptcy and thus void his contract with the Dolphins. He'd then become a free agent. He'd lose most of his assets, but would likely keep his Miami "bungalow". Under this scenario, he'd apparantly be better off because he doesn't have the cash to repay the bonus money.

According to one bankruptcy lawyer, it's the same clause that allowed former Dolphins punter Reggie Roby to walk away from his contract. Apparantly the Dolphins and the league didn't challenge Roby's situation because legal council suggested they'd lose.

I believe Williams will be back in the NFL, but with another team. There's too much baggage and animosity for him to return to the Dolphins.

Then there's the matter of when Williams will play. It's likely he won't play this season. The league has guidelines that are supposed to prevent players who have filed retirement papers from returning this quickly. And Williams faces a season-long suspension for being a repeat drug offender. But the league may also negotiate some form of penalty which would allow Williams to return as early as next season, maybe even earlier.

Head case or not, I picked Williams off the waiver wire in my fantasy football league. I'm fairly deep at running back right now and if he should return next season (it's a keeper league) it might pay off. Then again it might not.
