Well then I can only assume he is drinking like that because he still has a buzz going from the night before and he wants to make sure he doesn't spill.

CBC reporting on Power and Politics just now that Rob and Doug Ford have accepted a show on Sun TV. No link for you guys yet...
Obviously from a business standpoint it's huge, of course people are going to tune in, but I have no idea how they are going to approach it from a journalistic standpoint. We know the Sun up till recently was in Ford's corner, but they have been big in roasting him now too. What do they have planned? Some sort of mea culpa?

As for 'well everyone else does it' which is what the piece is essentially saying? Yeah, and? Not that it isn't bad but 'everyone else' isn't in the public position he is in. He needs to get his #### together - as said previously, any other job would not tolerate this crap. Hell, I worked in a finance office downtown and we had an SA start coming into work severely hungover, stinking to high heaven, acting belligerently, being offensive and they canned his ass. It shouldn't be any different for Ford.

The Sun Network, producing the dregs of news stories as usual, is taking any opportunity to increase its ratings. That's what they have planned here, we shouldn't expect some kind of intellectual thought provoking program here. I predict it will be:
Rob Ford: " I have the best fiscal record, yes I might have made some mistakes, but to my rivals I say Bring it On!"
Doug Ford: "My little brother is the most honest politician in the world"
cut back to Rob Ford muttering under his breath: "now where did I leave my crack pipe, dammit Alana where are you when I need to e** your p****!"

But he's the mayor and you can't just fire someone like that if they're an elected official.

Heh, I don't disagree, I just wonder how the Sun is going to segue into it given they've piled on to him too. But like I suggested, and you illustrated, if they approach it from a mea culpa standpoint, they can probably get away with it. As little as a reputation Sun media has anyway.

And they are both children of a former Ontario MPP (who himself was the child of a wealthy business man with alleged ties to organized crime).
Every generation more spoiled and entitled than the one before it.
Serious question.... why do so many people in democracies vote based on bloodlines? It's almost like the concept of being ruled by royalty is hardwired into some people.

It's true in many cases, and yet with conservative families like this they are always the first to cut programs that they see as entitlements, and blame the ills of society on those less fortunate. Mr. Romney another excellent example. His family got him his fortune, not he, yet he sees himself as this hard working savior that understands what it takes to get to the top. While getting advantages only a percent of a percent of a percent of the population gets.
Now I'm not saying he or Ford aren't hard working. It does appear they are. Just that they have no idea what it's like to be at the bottom, and that they have no idea that a person can work just as hard, often even harder, and still not what they have. In fact, still be in need of help.
It's hypocrisy at it's worst. Entitled people pointing the finger calling those on the bottom rung entitled.
Ford has come out against drug rehabilitation programs, against helping those in need, even if they are trying to get help. He's also taken a stance that is hard, even unforgiving on crime. And now, he's right in the middle of it.
Though the word gets overused both in life and on this forum, what is happening to him is very karmic. My only hope is it shows him the error of his ways, and he learns to accept people with problems. Until he does this, let life hit him with everything that it can, he truly deserves it.

See, I would disagree on this point. I think the worst kind of hypocrisy is champagne socialism.

Fair enough, hypocrisy exists in all forms, and across all dogmas and divides. If you are using the term as I believe you are, I would agree with your basic idea, though only in extreme circumstances as I know our definitions of socialism differ quite a bit.
I was using a figure of speech to add punch to the argument, and in all fairness, perhaps it's right to be called out on it, though I'm not writing for the Economist here.
One obviously can never say 'the worst' of anything that can't be measured empirically. So your use would be wrong too, though yes, socialism run amok would also create obvious hypocrisies.
So fine, I lessen my language. The point stands though. It's despicable, and highly hypocritical.

With a more democratic system, voting herds wouldn't be such a problem.
Unfortunately, things aren't designed to have access from the electorate.

The premier speaks about the situation
Quote:
Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne said Thursday the province may consider intervening in the scandal surrounding Toronto Mayor Rob Ford if city council makes the request, leaving it up to councillors to decide how to proceed with efforts to strip the mayor of his powers.
Thursday was the first time Wynne hinted at any involvement by the province in the scandal that has dominated business at Toronto city hall. The Liberal premier’s comments came a day after new allegations against the mayor came to light, including drunk driving and sniffing cocaine.
Wynne said that if Toronto city council were to indicate that it lacked the ability to function because of the ongoing scandal, the province would respond to a request to provide “new tools, depending on what that request may be.
“Events continue to move quickly and the things that we are hearing and seeing about mayor Rob ford are truly disturbing,” Wynne said.
Wynne didn’t specify what exactly the province could do if council asked it to step in. She did say if any action were to happen, “because of the extraordinary and unique nature of any intervention from the province, I would consult with the other party leaders to see if the legislature could move unanimously if required.
“The last thing that this terrible situation needs is an overlay of partisan politics,” she said.
