This pretty much is the typical level of decorum in politics.

Rob Ford is comedy central. Fat guy in a little suit.
Tommy Boy.
It would appear that in Canada a Mayor has to be on Murder, Rape, Armed Robbery charges in order to be removed.
I actually find it hilarious how their city council can't remove him from office.
The reply he had about having enough to eat at home has to be the sound bite of the year.
This train wreck is outstanding to see what crazy antics Ford finds himself getting into next.

Disagree. Think of it as a silent protest, a hunger strike.

Not saying it's a good thing, but he's left them no option. They need to separate themselves from him and need to put pressure on him somehow. He's crossed the line where any other normal employee would be gone, but yet he's got the power to stay. He's crossed the line proving he has no respect for the office, for the city, and for his co-workers. Why should they respect him?

I agree, they need to get work done, and this makes it even harder. Perhaps they should be bigger. But at this point getting rid of Ford really is priority number one anyway, so actions like this could be important.

It's not ideal, but I fail to see how this makes council look bad.

it makes them look childish. Ford is a buffoon but they are just coming off like a bunch of elementary school kids.

I think this is going to take a turn from comedy to tragedy sometime in the very near future. Up to now, it's been somewhat laughable, but this is a guy with serious addiction and emotional issues. The denials, deflection, and rage would seem very typical of an addict.

I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility to say that this ends with him OD'ing, having a massive coronary attack or possibly taking his own life. The stress and scrunity have to be having an incredible impact.

I'm not saying this to defend him, I just think this could well end very badly, very quickly. At this point, the best outcome would be for him to simply resign. But that seems unlikely, and at some point, something may break.

I dunno, I don't see it that way. It shows they want to do something though their hands are tied. Maybe anti-Ford ribbons?

They are well aware people are watching them. They want to show they have absolutely nothing to do with Ford anymore.

It's not like this is a regular problem. It's not like they have their backs turned because they disagree with a budget point or something like that. I would agree, that would be childish and silly, but not in this situation.

Unfortunately I see this gong show ending with Ford in the hospital with heart attack from all the constant stress combined with his weight.
I say unfortunately because he is a fool absolutely and he has abused his position but he is far from a Clifford Olson character.

Whether he leaves or not, he will have to get help. If he doesn't, it'll end badly.

The catch 22 is that if they can't force him out, it'll probably just enforce his delusion that everything is fine. If they do force him out, he'll probably just react with more anger and self pity and go on another bender, bringing him closer to the point of no return.

It'll be interesting to see what, if anything, can make him take an honest look at his life and his behaviour.

There could also be some people out there that Ford has details on as well, and if it looks like he is close to cracking, they might want to see him dead instead. As someone mentioned earlier, I think it's a real possibility that staying on as mayor is all about self-preservation right now. He is a complete f-up right now and a lot of gangsters don't tolerate that for very long if they don't have to.

I could also see Ford getting drunk/coked up, raging and killing someone.

To add to my last thought, it doesn't look like he's got someone in his family that will help him, they all seem to be enablers right now.

It isn't shopped in?

I thought it was either a coke joke, or a yop gobbler joke.
