Wide receivers in motion before the ball is snapped doesn't seem gimmicky to you? A point for missing a field goal as long as it doesn't get returned out of the end zone?

If people think the games don't matter, you needed to be at the game last night. I have not seen the Dome rock like Mcmahon did last night since 2004. I pick a Stamps game over a Flames game this time of year every time.

If anyone is interested below is a response from the Stamps president to a thread on the Stamps board that was pretty much the same as this thread.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Fans,
In reviewing the latest board comments in respect to lagging attendance I want to add facts to this discourse:
1) Contrary to the piece recently reported by an unnamed, left leaning, heavily taxpayer subsidized, national TV network, attendance is up 2.5% from last season.
2) The Flames DO NOT control our ticket pricing. Ticket price increase for the next season has been kept to a minimum and does not counter the significant operating increases the Club will incur next season. Our mission, pure and simple, is to increase volume not rate.
3) The Club does not "sit on our hands" when the Riders are in town. Anyone attending those games would know that Stampeder fans, and only Stampeder fans, are given a substantial amount cheering accessories at a significant cost to the Club.
4) Anyone paying attention to the local marketing of the Club for Eskimo and Riders games would also realize that the Club spends more money on marketing to ensure the premium game tickets are sold to Stamps fans. I can safely say that the Club has never run ads in markets outside southern Alberta.
5) Most of our premium seating is sold to season ticket holders; hence it's not possible to give out of town game day fans mass premium seating.
6) Yes, the announced attendance during game time is not necessarily the actual attendance but the number does represent the actual tickets sold. We have no way of measuring actual net attendance until the next day.
I appreciate the passion fans on this board show for the Club and can assure you we are working hard to improve the game day experience in every aspect possible.
I am always accessible via email, gnorrie@stampeders.com, should anyone wish to contact me directly with questions or to simply provide input.
Go stamps!
Gordon Norrie

No motion at all seems gimmicky to me moreso in a sport that encourages running routes and making changes in a second.
The single point thing....with the end zones as they are is almost essential.
So no...i dont know where the "gimmicks" are in all that, and has been stated, these are not new rules and have been around for decades.

Bush league response from the stamps... totally unnecessary narrative about the cbc. Buddy needs to start vetting his comments through a PR person or something. I'm sure it'll play well with the political people anyway.

While perhaps unnecessary, it is also generally an accurate narrative about the CBC. However, context is important. It would be interesting to see what the CBC was actually saying.
Also, one correction for Mr. Norrie - the attendance is tickets disbributed, not tickets sold.

An indoor concourse and backs to the backless chairs would make a substantial difference.
I've been to 4 CFL Venues (BC, Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto) and Calgary is by far the worst.
On another note, hats off to TSN for providing a quality broadcast comparable to the NFL. I would assume the lifting of blackouts would contribute to the dropping gate attendance.

Yeah... it was pretty unprofessional (and kind of pathetic) that he says he wants to add some facts to the discourse and then his first "fact" is heavily editorialized

I've stated this earlier, but McMahon's sight lines are far superior to Commonwealth's. Isn't this the most important feature of any stadium experience?

Here is the final CFL attendance numbers for the year. All the attendance numbers come from cfl.ca which I have placed into a handy excel table! You can see that 4 teams saw attendance increases while 4 dropped. One of the teams that dropped was Hamilton but that is due to their stadium situation. I see no reason why Edmonton can't climb next year to their historical levels with a better team. BC dropping was a little surprising but not concerning. Toronto is the one market that needs fixing. I personally think a new stadium can solve their issues. I think next year can be a huge success. With better teams Winnipeg and Edmonton could see a bump and remain well above 30000. Saskatchewan should remain above 30000. I'd like to see Calgary and BC jump back to at least 30000 each. It's possible we could have 5 teams drawing over 30000. With new stadiums for Hamilton and Ottawa, I'd love it if they could regularly sell out their stadiums at 24000 each. If Montreal can climb back to 24-25000 we are in solid shape! Just Toronto would remain the step child of the league. Get that stadium built!

I must not have been paying attention this year. Did Sask add temporary seating? How are they averaging 37,000?

With the Grey Cup being in Regina they did add temporary seating. I can't remember how many seats they added, I want to say around 5000?

Last year, they replaced their old end zone seating and added a bunch of new end zone seating at the other end of the stadium, so they went from...
... to ...
This brought the permanent capacity up to just under 33,000.
With temporary seating on top of the end zone seats for the Grey Cup, capacity should be just under 50,000.

CFL audiences on TSN and RDS combined for an average of 758,000 viewers per game - an increase of 3.6 per cent compared to last year.

in addition to attendance actually increasing, more people watched this year on tv as well

The Western semi final is three days away and there's still 4000 unsold tickets. If it wasn't for Rider fans it would be a lot more. How does our team go to a western semi final without a sellout?
That's why I'm saying this city needs a dome. Sure an outdoor stadium is nice on a beautiful summer day but how often does that happen? I support outdoor stadiums in Miami, Dallas etc.
Reality check: How many elderly people and family's will watch the game from home because of the weather?
For the not tough enough arguements, I've worked outdoors for many years and played in an outdoor ice hockey league (even when it was -30 out). Neither bothered me one bit.
I don't support outdoor stadiums north of the border. Either that or move the season up so the playoffs are in September.

When I was younger I went to games when it was -20 c.....Now that I'm older I would rather watch it at home with friends, eat better food, not have to wait to take a piss and drink better beer.
I did my part in having seasons tickets for over 20 years.

I don't think a Dome would make a big difference. The Stamps have a good core of fans, and the rest of the City is just not that interested.

A Dome would absolutely make a difference. Especially this time of year.
