On the NBC coverage tonight, they played the fight from both the Caps an Flyers commentators' points of view.

The contrast was incredible...

"sickening" "criminal" "disgusting"

followed by

"he's hammering him!' "woot!" "wow" "this is awesome!"

Was really quite enlightening.

As an unbiased viewer, I'd certainly lean more to the Caps side of things.

Not saying Emery is a criminal, but it was kind of disgusting and sickening IMO.

Thought it was a pretty bush league play by Emery. As someone earlier said it's a matter of respect, hockey talks so much about "the code" but then you see examples night after night where the code goes out the window. There are a lot of times guys are throwing punches after the other guy is in a vulnerable position.

It's about respect. Look at NBA, MLB, NFL. I'd say there is considerably more respect in those leagues. In the NFL, players on opposing teams often pick each other up off the turf after a tackle. In the NBA, opposing players often hug/handshake before and after games. There's still trash-talking, but underlying it all people treat each other as people.

In the NFL, if you start a scrum and shove another player, that's 15 yards. In the NBA, most scrums end in suspensions. In the NHL, it happens 30 times a game, without any incidence. Change the culture. Teach real respect. A scrum breaks out in the NHL - give one guy 2 minutes. Give him a 10 minute misconduct. No other league tolerates this bush-league level of disrespect.

Devastating hits happen all the time in the NFL. Yet teammates don't have this 'grrr must get revenge' mentality about it, like in the NHL. They don't go chasing around the guy who delivered that dirty hit, because doing so isn't 'tough,' it's just bush.
Terrible comparison. Hockey is the only one of those sports (if you can even call baseball a sport) that is mostly improvisation. Every other one is a series of set plays. It's far more chaotic, so more emotion is obviously expected.

No, the ref should not get fired!
I guess Kerry Fraser, a 40 year ref in the NHL didn't get this memo. They try to break up a fight with two guys, yes. Saying it isn't allowed is a straight up lie.

Kerry Fraser thinks the ref mishandled the incident and says he would have never stood by and watched Emery use the back of Holtby's head as a punching bag.

Agreed. All the ref had to do was skate to Emery and tell him if he threw another punch he would get suspended (match penalty for attempt to injure).

I also wanted to mention that everyone coming down on Emery also needs to look at Oleksy sucker punching Lecavalier, talk about a D-Bag. Lecavalier comes over towards the Emergy fight and is holding onto a player and Oleksy is suddently feeding him from the side. Everyone always wants to blame the Flyers in things but in every incident, outside of the Emery one, the Caps players dropped the gloves first.

And one other thing, if someone is pounding a teammate like Emergy was, just jump him. At that point in the game who cares if you are third man in.

Ray Emery's girlfriend Keshia Chante and Robin Lehner had themselves a little twitter spat today.

Lehner will be making a lot more money over the rest of his career than Emery has. So that's a pretty dumb comment to make when it won't even be true in a couple years.

I'm sure Emery is none too pleased with his GF at the moment.

She'll be wearing a Holtby jersey in the sac tonight... hahaha.

Interesting to watch and see if the brawl is a turning point for Philly's season, if it makes no difference, or if it is a death knell.

Record up to and including the Brawl:

3 wins 9 losses
(6 out of 24 a possible points)

Record after:

3 wins 1 loss 1 OT loss
(7 out of a possible 10 points)

The argument is ridiculous but who the hell is Keisha Cante and how does she make more money than Lehner?

Updated Philly Record shown above as of Nov 22.

Philly took advantage of a relatively easy stretch of games and is now on quite the roll. Schedule still looks good for them through the rest of November, with games vs

NYI
at FLA
at TB
Winn
at Nash

That team was too good to be playing so poorly; something had to give.

I don't know if Emery's fight alone did it, but I think the team showing that Broadstreet Bully attitude definitely sparked a change.
