Icon55 Ted Nolan Back in the NHL

I know this is referenced in the Pat LaFontaine Thread, but this is more intriguing to me. I know nothing about what Ted Nolan did to get blacklisted, but interesting to see him getting another shot.

It's been a long, long while since I've seen Ted Nolan's name appear on CP, if anything it'll be interesting to see that debate reopened with him back in Buffalo.

I'm still really happy that Button went with Sutter over Nolan waaaay back in the day. I wonder if Nolan was more prepared for this interview. Curious if he has improved his research and prep.

He was decent coach back in the 1990s when clutching and grabbing ruled. He really relied heavily on the trap and the Sabres of that era were one of the most boring (if not the most boring) team to watch and it's still the reason why the Sabres are one of my most hated teams. They were the team that really mainstreamed the trapping style for entire games. He also relied very heavily on the insane talents of Hasek who I still feel was the best goalie of our generation.

It's really difficult to know how he will do now as the league is quite different. Was he a coach that recognized the weaknesses of his team and coached accordingly, or is a one-trick pony that is going to be outdated? He never had a chance to prove otherwise.

He coached two seasons for the Islanders, 06-08. Hasn't been out that long.

Wow, I had to look that up, I honestly didn't recall him coaching the Islanders.

Haha yeah, in general most things the Islanders do is pretty forgettable.

I only remember because Buffalo played them in the first round one of those years and the media made a big deal of the Ted Nolan connection.

I always liked Ted Nolan. Unfortunately, in the past, he hasn't played well with others.

Hopefully, as he's aged, he's mellowed a bit and learned his lesson. I always thought he was a fine coach.

There will be no in between. This will either work great or blow up in flames.

It's interesting in hindsight how you can trace the transition of the Sabres from respected, scrappy underdog hockey org to upstate NY clown college to the moment Pegula bought the team.

They won their division in 2010.

Pagula bought the team in 2011.
