Default Colorado shakes things up

The Colorado Avalanche have been awful this season, so it was time for a shakeup. We made 2 trades within the last few days to hopefully change things up.

The first deal brought in a new backup goalie, Michal Neuvirth. Going to New Jersey is Johan Hedberg, Nick Sorensen and Cole Cassels.
We wanted to bring in a guy that we have been after for some time. We feel he is young enough where there is still starter potential.

The next trade was a major blockbuster. The Avalanche have shook up the core and brought in Kris Letang, Brent Burns and Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson. Going the other way is long time Avs Valterri Filppula, Dion Phaneuf and prospects Matt Dumba and Boone Jenner.
We wanted a change up front to bring in more grit and maybe it opens up the ice for guys like Spezza and Pavelski. Losing 2 bluechip prospects certainly sucks and that will determine who won/loss this deal in the long run but my window is closing and I need to make bigger moves.

Thanks Chris and Grant for the deals.

Short term maybe this helps my chemistry but if it doesn't work out I add a couple pretty good prospects
Dion can go though

Two good trades and 1 bad post. Come on Pat, you trade like 4 times a year...don't be boring business all the time. Maybe you can contract in some images from Doug and some creativity from TSF?

Seriously though, two pretty even trades I think. The Dion/Letang deal will be a good one to look back on I think. Dion is, well, Dion which is both good and Bad. Letang is a known. The prospects are both interesting pieces. Dumba should have more upside but he is fighting a tough system to get anything more then #3 minutes in Minny. Jenner has a solid game that if developed properly could make him an effective 1st line however he just as easily projects to a 3rd liner for me...curious to see how he transitions to the pro-game. Filp/burns is a shake up but lateral, aside from age/contract.

Good shake up - Might be enough for me to play my starter against you now...probably not though.

I think those are two good deals for Colorado, which isn't to suggest they're lopsided. In both vases he gets the better player at this point, although he pays fair value for that luxury. I look forward to seeing how it works out from my vantage point higher in the standings!

My reasoning was I needed to clear some cheese space for future deals, and Crawford has started all but 1 game for me playing well. Hopefully he stays healthy.

I'm hoping Poulin or Lack can become decent backups and will be a lot cheaper in the short term. The prospects both have potential, so hopefully they can develop into NHLers one day.

Nice work, clearly the 2nd deal came down to the fact that Dion has showed to be durable and didnt fit in, so you felt the need to add another fragile injury prone piece in Letang to fit in nicely with your wimp squad!

Both deals are good, but I like the first one for the Avs and the second one for the Wild.

High price to pay, hopefully the Avs see some success after this deal and all will be worth it.

We don't wish the Avs success around here.

Shame on you! Turn in your CPHL GM card. You are off the force!
