What hockey jersey number does Ladislav Smid wear with the Calgary Flames hockey team of the NHL?

Guess when you already have 4 Giordano's it's easy to give one of them away for peanuts.

Solid, blocked some shots, made some hits, and took a penalty (which was very borderline)

Basically it was like having a better shotblocking version of Cory Sarich out there.-

Penalty wasn't borderline, it was a clear hit from behind.

It was called as interference not boarding.

Who cares what it was called, it was a penalty for a foul play.

I thought he struggled a little but I think it was mostly because he was not use to the system and where to play the puck when there are no options. He also bobbled the puck a bit and lost some one on one board battles but overall, I think he'll be a solid addition. He did have some blocks and he would battle.

Hartley may have shown where he ultimately envisions Smid playing when he paired him with Wideman at points in last night.

agreed.

Russel has shown he can be vulnerable against the boards on dump ins which can lead to opposition opportunities. Love Russel, but think he's better suited as a 3rd pairing guy who gets PP time.

when guys are healthy:
gio - brodie
wideman - smid
russel - butler/smith
sob

I would be very comfortable with those pairings. With Butler and Russel both showing they can slot into the top-4 with injuries it would allow Hartley to spread the defensive minutes around a bit more. Having the bottom pairing only playing 8-10 minutes a game puts a huge workload on the other two pairings. There's no reason Wideman should be playing 27-30 minutes a game once everyone is healthy.

The way I see it, with the bolded options as my favourites:

Russell - Wideman
/Giordano
Smid - Wideman/Giordano/Brodie
Butler
- Wideman/Giordano/Brodie

The idea is to split the time way more evenly between the pairings than was done to start to season, with no pairing being a clear liability and every pairing able to provide some offense.

While Russell is great, I think he's best utilized with another puckmover. So not Butler or Smid. Likewise I wouldn't put Butler and Smid together, as Butler really needs a strong skater/puckmover with him.

it was called interference so that was what the ref thought he saw, fact is the guy was hit as he touched the puck. Bad call
