Gotta say that tonight was probably the least impressed I've been with Sven in a long time. Effort was really inconsistent and many instances where he needed to be hard on a play where he took a path of lesser resistance. Nobody is saying he has to be David Backes out there but he needs to be stronger on the puck and he absolutely must contest more plays.

Monahan was better than he has been in several games.

Brodie was good again. Smid looks like a positive addition; having Smith in as opposed to O'Brien is also a positive change.

Berra was terrific. Hope he starts the Dallas game, since I'll be at it. Really impressed with him so far.

The entertainment value of that game was terrible. The Flames have to get more exciting or be willing to go back to playing in an empty stadium. I want my three hours back.

Stop feeding the trolls (dino7c). Guy posted like 3 posts all about how bad the point was, how bad the team is and how embarrassing it was to watch the game.

Just ignore him next time, he just needs attention. (I'm giving him the attention now but now you know! ;D)

?????????

I have been to about 700 Flames games. That game tonight was in the bottom 10 for entertainment value. Anybody who says that game sucked is right.

I don't see how a comeback in the 3rd and then losing in overtime could possibly be in the bottom 10 of 700 games. There is no way.

Yeah, I hear ya, it was a sucky game, but my point is that he had 3 separate posts about it, just graving for attention.

I happened to have different seats tonight which were very low to the ice. So I was very intrigued at a different level. Heard a lot of people wishing that the first two periods were not televised. 6 shots total for the flames after 40:00 mins of hockey.

Sometimes when you get low to the glass you just appreciate all those little plays your don't see high up. The board battles. The brutal edge to win the puck on the boards and the hand eye co-ordination and talent. I think the team was horrible for the first two periods, but managed to pull it together in the final period. Goaltending wasn't great but kept them in it when San Jose was looking for blood.

Also, even though we had home ice advantage I disagree with coaches lines. They don't make sense. We had our fourth line stuck out there for 2:45 to 3:00 at a pivotal moment. We are not giving our young players enough ice time as well.

That one point really covers up a lot of warts on this game. That said, I think it should help mentally to prepare for the next ones.

I think the last couple of tough losses where they battled hard and came up with nothing showed in the start. Putting up an effort is tough if you feel like it's not going to do any good anyway. If Hartley plays this right, getting that point from the Sharks with basicly 10 minutes of play should remind the team that they actually can win in this league.

I think we'll see more jump to begin the next game.

Veterans are showing their value; Hudler was a little soft, but had some good ideas that others couldn't take advantage of. Cammalleri was a fighter all night. Stajan put up an effort and did probably more than anyone besides Berra to keep the score tidy. Consistency is difficult to achieve, these guys have it.

Wideman was sleeping through the game though.

Monahan could use a benching or something IMO. He's been playing really soft lately. Baertchi has a lot of hussle, but his decisionmaking has been questionable at best. On one hand he creates chances, on the other he keeps wasting those chances by trying something that's just not going to work.

Backlund I think was okay. Him and Colborne are really quite similar in the end; good defensive play, some nice looks in the offense, but not much to show for it.

Smith-Smid was easily the best 3rd pairing we've had, even though Smid looked a little confused at times. There's clearly going to be an adjustment period for him, but so far I'm happy with the upgrade.

I frickin' love Russell.

Berra is good. First guy this season that makes me feel relaxed about our goaltending. .900 average SV% for a Flames goalie? Unfathomable! In other news, the goalies of this team are not having it easy.

That said, I still feel like Hartley is getting pretty good results, considering what he has to work with. Things are not looking as rosy as they did to start the season, but it would have been unrealistic to expect that they would.

And yeah, it's been rough times here on CP.

This just shows how good Kipper really was, and I'm sure the entire league have noticed or will notice that. I mean, we're glad our goaltending is .900%!

Unbelievable effort by Kris Russell in the third period. He has really excelled with his extra minutes. He looked poised on both ends of the ice. What a steal of a pickup.

Smid reminds me of Regehr during his prime. I think he'll be very useful for us once he gets comfortable.

I don't think the Sharks are getting enough credit. They used their size and asserted them selves to control the game. The one flaw with this team is they are still a little small and the Sharks are exactly the type of team that can make thinks miserable. I thought the Sharks played a pretty flawless game with great gap control, getting into the shooting lanes and dominating down low (around the boards, through the neutral zone, pretty much everywhere there was ice).

Essentially the flames were the little brother being held back by their older brother with one hand one his forehead while the younger brother windmills away hitting nothing but air. The fact we got a point out of the game was pretty criminal.

Goaltending is far from the issue in Calgary. Berra kept the Flames in last night's game. The shot quality our goalies are facing is sky high.

Our current roster is without any doubt, the worst roster we've iced since prior to our 2004 playoff run...but this is by design, so losses are going to pile up and pile up fast. Hopefully at the end of the year, we'll be able to say the majority of our younger players/prospects took meaningful steps forward and we have a top 5 draft pick to show for it.

The Sharks are a high end team, we are a bottom of the barrel team.

Blubloc obviously an Oiler or Canuck fan. I was at the game andBrodie played fine with exception of one dangerous giveaway. Baertschi did not ply any worse than most of the team. He had opportunities but his timing seemed slihghtly off. A couple of times he should have shot instead of trying to pass. He needs to get more greedy, but his confidence is not good due to the fear of more benchings in my thoughts. I did not see anything special from Stajan except losing the puck, getting pushed off the puck, and taking a penalty that costs the Flames a goal.

I don't think we can single out one player on this team. The whole team did not show up in the first period, barely showed up in the 2nd but finally decided to show up in the 3rd. I guess they thought the game starts at 8:30pm or something. The Flames were lucky to get a point on that game. Part of me was glad they did not win that game because they might get a habit of just showing up on one period.

That's unfortunate. Even though it isn't high brow humor, Dumb and Dumber might be the best pure comedy in the last 25 years. Brilliant timing and delivery of jokes. Whenever I'm having a bad day I can watch that and feel 1000X better. Give it a watch.
