Icon25 Anything I shouldn't miss in Denver?

Back in the summer one of my best friends was diagnosed with stage 4 Cancer (colon & liver). It’s not really a question of beating it, it’s more about how to spend his remaining time with his family and friends. We have always talked about going to an NFL game as neither of us have ever been to one in person. With his future time in question he went ahead and made plans for us and let me know about them this past weekend.

We fly out of Halifax this Friday morning at 6:45am and fly to Philadelphia, then to Phoenix and then to Denver. Getting in at 5:30 local time. If we can make it (as long as there are no delays) we are going to get tickets to see the Denver Nuggets play the Minnesota Timberwolves at 7:30pm Friday night.

Saturday we have 8th row tickets to see the Avalanche play the Panthers. After seeing many Moosehaed games I can't wait to see local boy Nathan MacKinnon in the NHL.

Finally, Sunday night we have row 37 seats on the 35 yard line for Kansas City Chiefs against the Denver Broncos. We are just up from the Chiefs bench. The #1 Chiefs vs the #3 Broncos on Sunday night prime time!!!

My buddy doesn't have a favorite team he just loves NFL football, I'm a die-hard Chiefs fan we have both dreamed about seeing a game live forever. He was excited to make it so I can see my favorite team in person, plus he wanted a multi-sport weekend trip so Denver fit the bill. I can’t believe his generosity in paying for all of this, it’s kind of humbling. It goes without saying I'm super excited. Not only will this be a trip of a lifetime, it will be a weekend memory of just me and my buddy that I will have forever. No kids or wives just two guys on an unhealthy eating and drinking sports weekend.

We fly home on Monday Denver->New York->Philadelphia->Halifax. We get back at 11:30pm on Monday. Tuesday is going to be a rough day at work but its a small price to pay.

Is there anything we should really not see while in the Mile High city? We will have some time during the day on Saturday to look around.

This week cannot go fast enough,
HD

Also, any recommendations on where/what to eat? Our hotel is near the Pepsi Ctr/Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium.

Considering your location, Denver has a lot of great Brew Pubs.

That's a great weekend man!

I have no suggestions but this is one of the best posts I've read on Calgarypuck.

Have a good time!

Buckhorn Exchange. Oldest liquor license in CO. Site of some stage coach holdups, used to be on the stage line.

Very cool atmosphere.

I've used this website to find places to eat when I've gone a few places because I like Triple D, it hasn't pointed me anywhere wrong so far.

I also like Brown Palace, if you end up downtown. Built on artesian well, very historic. Lots of presidents etc have stayed there.

Too bad it is winter, if you like cars I could tell you if the local porche club is having a thing. They are fun. I'm a dub guy but some of the guys let me take their vintage porche wheels out for a carbon blast.

Buckhorn Exchange is a restaraunt by the way, not just a bar.

Remember my name, "bar" is more important than "restaurant". lol

Is there any CPers going to the Chiefs/Broncos game? If so I'm ready for tailgating!

If he likes NFL football then he might like College football. There is bar in downtown Denver called Stoneys. It's where the OU ( University of Oklahoma) club of Coloarado calls home. There is an OU game that Saturday morning. They usually pack the place, there is a DJ who plays music from The Pride of Oklahoma marching band. It's a fun atmosphere. The coolest part is Denver has a home game so Quinton Carter will likely be there. He plays for the Broncos ( OU Alum) and on the couple of times I went to watch a game where there was home game for Broncos, he showed up with a couple Bronco teammates. Stoneys has some good OU game day specials, good beer, and a overall fun atmosphere to warm you up for the hockey game and the NFL game the next day.

Park and Co. burgers - I think it's DT-ish. It's been a couple of years when I was there for a conference for work.

Try the Mexican-southwest style burger if its still there. They also have booze

You know what I'd do for your friend, get in touch with all the sports teams and tell them about the story. They may get a million of these a season and do nothing but one or all may give you a little perk like a locker room visit or something similar. It might add to the special weekend. No harm in asking

Great idea, thanks. I'm not sure how to thank him for this trip, I didn't think about it but this may lead to something. Can't hurt to ask.

Spent a few days out there in February with the fiancee -

Eat breakfast at Snooze. It's amazing - it was worth the half-hour wait. I believe there are several locations - we went to the one closest to Coors Field.

"Biscuit and gravy"

Pancake "flight"

Peanut butter cup pancake

Girl Scout Cookies "Samoas" pancake (toasted coconut, vanilla caramel, chocolate chips, and dark chocolate)

Also, I recommend staying at the Hotel Teatro. Awesome place, especially if you can swing the Chancellor's Suite(stayed a night in it, awesome experience, especially since we were only charged $132)

The awesome marble fireplace

If you're interested in breweries, let me know. It's my bed time, but I can post a run down of the good ones tomorrow.

Just outside Denver in the suburb of Morrison, co is red rocks amphitheater, best concert venue I've ever been to, although it's likely closed I due to the weather. Cool place to check out though if it is open, lots of hiking trails and stuff like that too.

Don't miss the free beer and food at the Broncos game that one of Calgarys finest realtors has just offered to buy for you.

Unless I grossly misunderstood that...

Where are ya for the Avs game? I'm in section 146 Row 8.

What section for the Chiefs/Broncos? Who are you cheering for?
