Worked today, fine whatever.
But what really irked me was the amount of people saying "Happy Remembrance Day" or "Happy Poppy Day".
Today is not a day of happiness.

Is there a difference between a morning massage and posting on CP?
After my massage I took my boys to Stir Crazy and then the Hitmen game at 4pm
Does that pass your Remembrance Day test?

I am glad some people marked the solemn occasion by checking CP and replying about how more righteous they are in their observance.

Just settled in to start my 12 hour shift. In my line of business, there is no such thing as a "holiday off".

If that's the case then,
Thank you, UCB for your service to the country.

Nope, I would suggest it is a complete and utter fail

Not much to tell. I found out about 3 weeks ago that I should have recieved this letter:
Would have been nice to know, and what is really odd, is that they had my address (Army needs that you know) and sent me a letter about possible exposure to dangerous chemicals from red dirt we used to fill out sand bags (we would be caked in the stuff). This is but two of the ways I got ass ####ed, it appears they also neglected to pay us danger pay....

I was in Safeway yesterday around 6pm. The lady behind me asked the cashier when the store would be closing. The cashier replied that it would be midnight, which is the standard closing time for a Monday. The lady got really irritated, said it was ridiculous and that the store shouldn't be open at all today.
I told the lady that it is people like her, and myself, that are coming into the store, that keeps it open. She said they should close at 6 to honour the veterans. I asked how closing six hours earlier honours them, and did she pick 6:00 because that would mean her shopping would be done.
I don't get how you can complain about a store being open, if you are there shopping. If you feel the store should be closed, then stay away from it. In my restaurant days I was told by a customer that I wouldn't be getting a tip because I was working on a Sunday, which is apparently a sin, and they just came from church. I didn't care about the money, but don't tell me it's a sin that I am working on a Sunday. The only reason I was working, was because hungry people came into the restaurant. If it's a sin, then protest in front, boycott the restaurant or write a letter to the paper. Don't encourage the sinning by dining in and then taking it out on a guy making $5.90 per hour.

Because I believe he should have taken them to a service. Parents need to ensure that we keep these "traditions" continue. I believe he failed his kids.
Again this is only my belief.

I appreciate what you have done but you come off as someone that is really bitter and there is no point in debating this.
Cheers.

I am not really a bitter person as a rule, but these types of things upset me. A service is roughly 1 1/2 hours out of you life and it is quality time with the kids. The soldiers/vets appreciate the effort to bring children to services. If you appreciate what has been done, then take the time to show it, both to you kids (they will learn the appreciation from you) and vets/soldiers.
I agree that there is no point in debating this, my position is pretty firm.
Cheers to you as well.

Did anyone else find any good shopping deals on remembrance day?
Disappointed that Futureshop and Best Buy ran out of the new COD, Battlefield 4 and Assassin's Creed for that 1 for 1 game trade promo they had this weekend.

Tim Horton's did offer free coffee and food for uniform wearing vets, and Denny's was offering free pancakes
so, what's the problem?

If you can't figure out the difference between a appreciative gesture to Veteran, and some neckbeard living in his mom's basement getting rock bottom saving on a video game, or a flesh light.... I feel sorry for you.

Why does an appreciative gesture have to involve an entire day off?
Respect can be still served at the 11th hour as everyone did with their moment of silence. But what do you know about respect, you wrote off people's religious beliefs and its biggest day as if it was make belief

I would once again like to take this opportunity to dissociate myself from the above poster, who brings shame to the good name of Mr. Hippo. and I'm not changing my picture, cause I was here first.
but seriously, know when to make light of something and know when to show respect. there are people on here that have actually put themselves next to bullets and bombs just so you have the right to do your holiday video game shopping. you make me want to throw hot massage stones at your head.

That's okay, King Hippo is awesome. The more avatars of him the better. Besides, it's not like you're the first person in message board history to ever used the avatar
Anyways, just because my opinion is different than yours and others doesn't make it disrespectful. The world doesn't stand still for one day, it still have to have people work and allow everyone else to obtain goods and services. If a retailer wants to set up a Sales Promotion on this day, why cant we as consumers take advantage of it? If you have something against sales promotions on this day, then go after the retailers and their decision makers.
As I said, I've paid my respect on the 11th hour and I'm thankful they've allowed us to have this freedom, but you cant drop everything for a whole day

nothing you said is technically wrong, you just need to work on your timing. the people above you were busy debating about how solemnly Remembrance Day should be treated, and you just randomly parachuted in asking about video game sales. I don't think it would have been as big a deal if you posted the exact same thing in one of the official game threads instead.
