What does playing the game have to do with recognizing a slew foot?
Watch the clip and point out where Hamilton slew foot's Stamkos, or even pushes him causing him to call in any way.
Players crash into the net or boards every game, it happens.
But I forgot since you are obviously the only one who has played the game on this board you clearly know that no professional hockey player has ever fell awkwardly on their own accord since they know how to skate.

A bit early to make that call, but it is a real possibility. That is a huge blow to the Lightning too. We're about to find out just how good or bad that team is.

It definitively wasn't a slew foot but Stamkos did fall because of being bumped by the Bruins forward while driving the net.
That being said it does clearly look like a hockey play from a guy trying to drive the night and the back checker trying to get in his way. Unfortunate injury.

Horrible looking injury. At this point the Olympics and this season are trivial matters, I just hope that he can fully recover. How many times have we seen a player take a nasty injury and they are never the same after.

so what's the usual timeline on stuff like this? Obviously every injury is different, but I see that Chris Kelly had a broken tibia in March and he returned in April after missing 14 games ... Nathan Horton had a broken tibia in 2010 and returned after 17 games. So maybe - hopefully! - it's not necessarily "out for Olympics" or even "out for season" ... unless there's more substantial damage to the leg, of course.
EDIT: I see Kelly and Horton didn't require surgery ... so Stamkos' break obviously worse.

This sucks. Stamkos is easily my favourite player that isn't on the Flames. Hopefully he has a quick recovery.

It's really going to depend on if it is compounded or not. It it is a crack from a shot or impact, yeah, you could be back reasonably quick. But if it is a displaced fracture... which the bend in his leg looked like it would be, this could be a long haul, and a career altering injury.

I hope it isn't career ending.
On the Brightside, a broken bone is more treatable then a severe concussion.
Maybe I am wrong, but concussions suck.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've understood, a big broken bone is the type of injury that can heal surprisingly fast and doesn't generally linger. So he could easily be back for the olympics. (His game shape is another matter of course.)
However, the way the leg twisted, there could be some nasty ligament tears too.
TB is going to take hit in the standings though.

Some general information on tibia injuries -- http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=A00522 …. Obviously hoping Stamkos has best-case scenario
From the link: Some tibial shaft fractures heal within 4 months, yet many may take 6 months or longer to heal

I broke my tibula and fibula when I was young and that took me 6 months in a full cast even though I was at an age when healing was "very quick" and no surgery/pins were needed.
Granted I wouldn't have had the athletic background and great doctors he will have at his beck and call to help me heal quicker but it is very likely that he is out for the season.

Oh man, why did it have to be Stamkos? He is arguably the best player in the world right now next to Crosby. As a hockey fan you never want to see the best players injured like that, regardless of the team they're on.
Here's to a speedy recovery, Stammer.

If its anything like my Tibia and Fibula fracture, which did require surgery, he could technically be back within 4 months. I broke both tib and fib and had surgery to install a rod in the middle of the tibia and was walking (barely) within a month. This can quickly speed up recovery because you can start doing physio way earlier. This will really reduce muscle atrophy that you would otherwise see by being a cast.

Tough break for Stamkos and the Olympic team. You could see from the expression on his face that it wasn't good.
Reminded me of former Flame Dave Hindmarch who crashed into the post in a game against the Canucks in a 1983 game, damaging the cartilage in both of his knees. IIRC it was soon after his incident that the NHL mandated the use of movable nets.

Awful for Tampa. Who will be taking his spot on the first line?
