Working today. Most of the office seems to be on present but not diligently working mode.
On that note, anyone have any idea what will be open for lunch downtown besides McDonald's and Tim Horton's?

Probably the only pet peeve I have about my place of work, is having to work Remembrance day. We get Dec 27th in lieu.
I would gladly work an of the other stat day that honors some magical, fantasy, fairy tale character from a magic book of lies, in lieu of the day that remembers the very men and women that have given us, and protect our way of life.
Lest we forget.

Sucks for the people that have to work but I guess it boils down to a business decision.

Yup at work for the typical day in lieu at Christmas time, which actually works out pretty good in our case as our office is closed Dec 24th - Jan 1st. Which I think works out an extra 3 days off for working 1 extra in November. No complaints here.

As backwards as we can be here in Nova Scotia, Remembrance Day is one thing we get right.
Today is the only day of the year that stores are legislated to be closed. Offices are closed. If you want to be open all day Christmas Day you can be, if you want to be open at 6am on New Years Day you can be. But not today.
This is the "holiday" (I use the term loosely, as it's not happy and celebratory) that should come before all others.
I can't comprehend that you can take another day in leiu. To me that defeats the purpose.
Today is a day to focus on those that sacrificed their lives for something bigger than all of us. To me you just can't say "yeah, whatever you can have December 27th off instead". To me it should be non-negotiable. A solider doesn't get to say "you know what Sargent, I'm gonna go on this mission next month, today is inconvenient for me".
That's my two cents. But I was extremely close with my grandparents who served, and I don't have what it takes to serve, so my respect for those that do is immense.

I understand many companies give a day at Christmas in leui of Remembrance Day, but its strange how many people dont think Remembrance Day is a stat holiday. My boss has been in a management role for dozens of years, but seems to think he is doing us a favor by giving us the day off.

at work and loving it. roads were dead, it's quiet in the office, and I'm making double time on top of the regular time I'd make for staying at home.
I would love to go have a nap or sleep in but I'm makin' drug dealer money today what-whaaat. Ugh I'm exhuasted.

My theory on the logic is that the soldiers worked on this day and so do we.
Either way I agree that you would think of all holidays, this one would be more strictly enforced as a stat.

Well, everyone in the country gets either Good Friday or Easter Monday off to honour the sacrifice of Jesus- shouldn't we take a day to honour the sacrifice of thousands of soldiers who died for us?

I think government is off here in Ontario, otherwise it feels like a normal work day.
I believe it should be vacation. The importance of the day is being lost in workday noise.

yeah I completely agree. Every other holiday to me is pretty much just a "Wooo day off!" but Rememberance Day makes me feel like I should just be at home being thankful for all the soldiers have done for us.
I also find it disgusting when bars use it as a promotion method. I remember a bunch of "Rememberance Day Celebrations" from Road House and such last year. That is dispicable to me.
