willie joosen and her make it much better… i just think that the dome needs to be rocking before the puck drops and she's not the one for the job.
i should say that i don't think she is bad in any way… we could just do better…
the fake opera guys you speak about are the guys in Ottawa and Van? cause they suck… and the Los Angeles rotation of celebs etc who sing are just stupid…
im just setting bar at the Chicago and Bostons singers

I don;t think a different anthem singer will make a difference.
People need to realize the Saddledome is a very quiet building compared to most around the league. It's not the mascots or anthem singers fault, it's the crowd.
It'll never be as loud as Winnipeg for example.

Took my family to the Nucks-Ducks game since we're in Anaheim on vacation. Felt great to see so many greasy Canucks fans come all the way to California only to watch their team lose twice.
My hotel is full of sad-faced saps in their Kesler and Burrows jerseys. Good thing they didn't burn down the hotel, though the night is still young.
Is it wrong I felt so good watching them lose? The crowd had to be at least 35% Canucks fans.
Got to sit next to two Southern CA Ducks fans/season ticket holders. Nice people, good to see the game getting fans like them down here. Especially when their team beats Vancouver.

Tough to have anything but respect for Fedun and the way he came back from that horrible injury (google fedun nystrom). Took him two years to get back. The kid has a lot of jam.
He and Ference are the only ones on the roster who do. THAT is the oilers problem.

Had forgotten the name. Great story, awesome he could make it back. He still isn't very good (hell neither is Ference anymore) but good for him.

Ference is struggling quite a bit in Edm but that will happen when you go from #4/5 on a defensive NHL powerhouse to #1/2 on the worst team in pro sports over the last 5 years. Still a great guy. If MacT wants out of that contract he can have SOB for Okatoker

Winnipeg is a blue collar crowd and the lower bowl in Calgary is more corporate. Just the way things are.
also, in 2004 the dome was as loud as anywhere so we know it can be a loud building

I was just in Winnipeg for the Jets-Preds game and to be honest that is the most over-rated building in the league. It was not very loud at all and most of the fans commented that their team was lucky and were likely going to blow it after being up 4-0 after the first. It appears the honeymoon phase is over in that city and they are not overly confident with the team they have.
Even after the win everyone quickly filed out and went home. The bar attached to the stadium was half empty 30 minutes after the game. My wife who is a fair weather hockey fan even stated the energy on a weekend win at the dome is much better than what we witnessed Friday

They are facing the reality of being in the western conference where they can't compete like many of us suspected

I hear what your saying... but using Chicago as an example is unfair as that's setting the bar REALLY high IMO. They've been doing the anthem that way for years, can't remember what it was that made everyone start doing that, but screaming as loud as you can during the anthem is ingrained with that team and city.. it's awesome, and I enjoy it. Though, not confident Calgary will get to that, but you never know.

I'm talking specifically about the anthem singer and not what the crowd is doing. I understand the crowd is corporate but I believe the anthem singer can bring a little bit more out of the crowd then heather. That's it

My bad, I thought you were speaking more of the atmosphere during. You just want a more powerful voice... I get that.

There's a reason Calgary has such trouble drawing big name music acts, and it's because the saddledome is a terrible building for acoustics. Put the average Flames crowd in a tin can type of building like Rexall and I wager they'd be one of the loudest in the league

Just wait until Bryzgalov arrives in town. It's still all Dubnyk's fault that this team isn't looking like the Cup contender that Lowe and MacTavish have built.
Seriously though, after a game like this I don't know how anyone can with a straight face continue to protest that the Oilers' biggest problem is goaltending. I can hardly wait to see what happens when Bryzgalov starts playing there.

The anthems were first done that way at the All-Star game in 1991, it was at the Old Chicago Stadium, and the NHL was honoring military serving during Desert Storm, which had recently commenced. Players wore decals in support of troops, and the game was broadcast to military overseas. The rousing tradition of a raucous anthem, along with crowds cheering, rather than just singing or standing, carried on in Chicago from that point.

I think some of this is cultural as well. Like it or not, for better or for worse, I just don't believe that ideologically conditioned nationalistic sentiments run nearly as deep in any part of Canada as they do in the US. You just can't manufacture this stuff.

I have heard that before how it's not total pandemonium before, during, and after the game. Some fans wish realignment didn't happen because they are in a tougher division and conference now. About the game they played against the Sharks, they came back from a 2 goal deficit and tied it up late in regulation and went on to win 5-4 in the SO. Niemi is the reason the Sharks get a point as he faced 46 shots.

The Predators have been SHUTOUT 2 games in a row by the same score, this time to the Devils 5-0. Brodeur gets another SHUTOUT and he should be the #1 goalie. He is playing well again. Jagr gets 2 points and has 1,701 career points. The Ducks are flying high with Andersson in goal who is now 6-0-0 in the NHL, Ducks beat the Canucks 3-1 to win their 5th straight game. LOL on the Oilers losing again. The Avs win 4-1 over the Capitals. Ovechkin tripped into the boards and was in pain. Varlamov was great in goal again for the win. New coach for the Panthers doesn't change anyting as they lose again, 4-3 in reg time to the Rangers. The Habs won 4-2 over the Islanders.
