Some concerns that this team will have to watch out for is the increasingly common habit of falling behind 2-0 early and the serious drought on the PP.
Happy with the effort, hopefully they'll continue to push forward and get a couple more bounces in their direction.

Haven't really looked, but at what point does our schedule stop being a non-stop smorgasbord of pure anal penetration?
In our 17 games so far this season, our opponents have a combined record of 161-85-30 (Counts Washington twice).
We've played 12 out of the top 15 teams in the league (points percentage wise), yet we've only played 4 out of the bottom 14 teams in the league (points percentage wise).
Combined record of the teams we are yet to play....86-102-23
Anyways, team put up a fight like usual.....but fell short like usual. Liked what I saw from Reinhart. Very intense, works hard, is really quick/shifty, and seems much stronger this year compared to last. He's going to be a terror for other teams on the forecheck/cycle.
Really wish we weren't missing our best all round defenseman. Makes a big difference IMO.

It might get a bit better, but it won't even out completely. We're in the Pacific Division, and the sucky teams are mainly concentrated in the Metropolitan.

True enough.
As of right now, 4 of the top 10 teams in the league (again, point % wise) are from our division, and that doesn't include LA who are 10-6. Nice division we have here, lol.
Looked at the schedule, after the next home game vs. the Sharks, we have Dallas, Edmonton, Winnipeg (Away), Columbus and Florida.

If it wasn't for a bad 1st period we might have walked away with a win. The boys made it exciting to watch, too bad they didn't pull it out but we get back home and hope things will change. I can take games like that if they keep putting an effort in.

On the plus side, Cammy Backs and Hudler looked great. Don't know how you don't ride out that line for the foreseeable future.

Jesus it'll be hard to ever make the playoffs in this insane division. I think in the East, we would be a playoff team, and probably would have been in the past few years too

Not that it matters a whole lot, but I wonder how this compares to the Oilers. I haven't really kept track of them too much, but it SEEMS that they have had a bit of an easier schedule than the Flames thus far. Maybe I am not paying too much attention. Would be interesting if that is indeed true.
Also, it was nice to see some of the youth rewarded tonight. Hartley benches a few of the young guys for not playing well enough, but he then proceeds to reward them for playing hard. Looks like he simply challenges them to become better and more consistent players out there. I actually like what he is doing with the rookies/youth.
I bet Baertschi (if he keeps playing well) gets to see some PP time soon. Possibly Backlund as well (well, more than he did tonight).
Really funny seeing Stajan at over 23 minutes tonight. He really has done a complete 180. I wouldn't be mad if the Flames re-sign him (though not my preference), but if he keeps this up there will be more than a few teams interested by the deadline. He has become a very solid 200ft player.
Another gutsy performance by the Flames. It is hard not to like this team, even when they lose.

Cammy has consistently produced when in the line-up, regardless of his line mates. He's made every flames player he's played with look better. That's most impressive to me.

It's actually true. I think 2 of the past 4 years without playoffs, we were in the top 16 for points league-wide, but screwed out of a berth because of being in the more competitive conference. Flames would be a perrennial 6-8 seed playoff team in the east with Feaster/Sutter's previous "patch the ship" approach. Which would be good but also would be negative for cup aspirations, as I think we would settle for mere playoff appearances, yet we would never be able to get out of the first or second round anyways.
In the big, big picture in the overall scheme of things, this will make us a better club. When we can finally compete well enough to crack the top couple teams in the toughest division in the entire league, we'll be a team to be reckoned with. And if the playoff/division setup ever changes, we'll be better for it, too.
It sucks that even being a .500 would leave us far enough behind other teams in the divison that playoffs hopes will be all but non existent not even half way into the season, but we've got see through the frustration and impatience to what this will force us to do to truly become a Great team, not just a fringe playoff team.

Was happy to see jackman and mcgrattan benched in the third after their poor defensive coverage on one of those goals.

Flames play Edmonton, Winnipeg, Columbus, Florida from Nov 15-22. They have a combined record of 19-39-22 this year. Should be able to get some W's there.

Another good game by the Flames and shows how close they are to being a real contender for a playoff spot.
The problem still is a lack of scoring up front. Pretty easy for the opposition to cover your 2 most consistent threats and goal scorers, Mike Cammallari and Jiri Hudler.
I'm really liking Hudler this year, he's such a skilled and crafty player. And Cammallari, so clutch and gritty. His first goal last night, not many guys can score that goal from there.
I can't imagine the Flames being very happy with Mikael Backlund right now. He had a good game and got 2 assists but he's also playing with the 2 best players on the team. He should be carrying a line on his own. Be interesting to see how this plays out.
Shouldn't the coaching staff give specific instructions to shoot the puck in 2-1 situations or when he (Backlund) is in the slot? Last night again, he should have driven to the net and backhanded that on goal. Instead he dishes it off to Cammallari who was in a more difficult spot and still scored.
That's why I love Cammallari.
Also, Jones and Galiardi, disappointing in that they can't score. I would look for those 2 guys to be traded and get some more hungry wingers into the lineup.
Kari Ramo with a good game, the defense is good and will be better with Smid.
Reinhart, Colborne and Monahan, these are the young guys on this rebuilding team so you have to be patient with them. Same with Sven but I can see him being scratched again or even sent down to Abbotsford.
Good game but like I said last game, the team needs to be managed a bit better. Give the coach some players to work with.

Another entertaining game and a really good effort.
PP was the difference again.
No matter where you stand on the Baertschi debate, the team is better when he is in the lineup and on Monahan's left.
Combined record of their opponents on this road trip: 42 - 10 - 10
Flames got one win, one bad loss, and two games that could have resulted in points if the PP wasn't colder than the current mood in Edmonton

Smid will help. They simply can't keep playing Wideman 30 minutes a night (not that they have had much choice)
