Nice to see Backlund get a chance to get back into Hartley's good graces. He looked really good out there with Hudler and Cammy. Winning board battles and taking a beating in front of the net. Hopefully he keeps up that effort.

In a dream world we could trade him for a first and then resign him as a UFA.

Overall the effort was great.

He's not a 30 minute guy. He's FAR from atrocious.

Some junk calls, especially the Galiardi slash, and that goal was the difference on the 5 on 3.
The first stretch of games we had that surprise finisher in Monahan. Needed that sort of unexpected goal scorer the last two games and maybe the Flames have 4 points in the last two nights rather than 0.
No matter the opponent, that's the Western conference...tough teams. No easier with SJ next, and at some point "good effort, almost tied it" starts to be more frustrating then something positive.
|
It really should not be frustrating if people come to grips with the serious disparity of talent that the Flames have compared to almost every team in the West.
The passion and commitment is very encouraging, and for the most part consistent.

Love the effort. Could have won, but tough seeing the Avs get those 5-on-3's early on that really made it an uphill battle.
Really like the Sven-Monahan-Reinhart line, hope they keep it together for next game. The Backlund line also looked good.
For a team that was supposed to be hot garbage this year the Flames are giving a lot of good teams a run for their money. Can't ask for much more than that.
Not overly impressed with the Avs. They will be closer to a bubble team rather than an elite team by the end of the season.

Just for some perspective, the Flames have played all of 3 games against teams not currently in a playoff position: New Jersey, Columbus, and Dallas. We've played all top 9 teams in the west who all have 20 points or more already so far this season. We've played 4 more games on the road including a trip out east.
I'm just saying, this is possibly the toughest our schedule will be all year, so the fact we are still in these games and only a couple games under .500 is a testament to how good this team is playing under tough circumstances.
Not to mention sub .900 sv% until Berra started playing.

He is hardly atrocious. He was fighting the puck tonight. So was Cammy in the first.
Good game. Ramo looked solid.

Better effort than against St. Louis, but the Avs are just a better team.

I think Nathan McKinnon tonight shows the different between a #1 pick and a guy like Monahan. Both are really talented guys and look to have bright careers, but one is just a little more consistent and on all the time. The guy is just another amazing forward piece on that Avs team.
And speaking of which, I think Monahan is probably soon due for some press box time for a little learning. But as usual, he was more noticeable out there with Sven back in the lineup though...and I really liked the addition of Max Power to that line. I hope Hartley keeps them together for a while to see if there's magic there.

Are we happy now with Ramo and Berra as 1A and 1B going forward (not necessarily in that order)?
Also, good to see Cammy finishing -- need to maintain his value at the trade deadline (although I wouldn't mind if he sticks around one way or another).

I'm satisfied with that. That's what I was hoping for from the beginning actually...MacDonald just kept getting in the way.

I am happy with that going forward for the rest of the season but from what I have seen in the (very) limited time I don't think that is a very good combo beyond this year as they both look more like back-ups then legit starters, but makes sense to give them the rest of the games this year to see if they can improve.

Jackman... useless again.

Not a bad effort overall. Cammy-Backs-Hudler line was great. Sven looked good, Brodie was good.
PP is horrid. SOB can't make a pass if his life depended on it. 5 giveaways on one shift to cause the third Avs goal. Just a bad player who had a bad game.

Good Game!
What I liked:
Camel Larry!! (on Fire)
Ramo!
Backlund
Hudler
Sven
Brodie
The trade (like Horak but we got players that are similar like...)
Rheinhart
The fight!
The Avalanche (I wish we were them)
Eric Johnson is very steady
Didn't like:
Annoying crowd noisemakers
Wideman (he needs a break - Smid can't come soon enough)
Monohan (also could use a break)
Butler
D. Jones
Colborne
Stajan (I know he does a lot of little things well)
PP
