Just saw the news. Pretty good deal from Calgary's side and improved the top 4 immediately especially with Gio out for a bit. I also like it pushes SOB, Bulter down the rotation when Gio returns.
Lastly, wtf is going on in deadmonton?

Maybe, but with the way Edmonton develops talent, he'll likely play for another team by then.

I find it hilarious that many Oilers fans think its the worst deal ever and the GM is an idiot and Flames fans are saying the same thing
maybe most fans play too many video games and watch too many youtube highlights

As much slack as he gets on here at least Butler blocks shots, this move needs to bump SOB out of the lineup because he is beyond terrible. Never in position, turns the puck over, just a really terrible D man.

Wait until they get to see Bryz play a few games with that defense in front of him. Sadly things can actually get worse for them.

With the Oilers luck, he'll get eaten by a grizzly bear on his way to the Anchorage airport.

With the way the Oilers play defence, the odds against him. I feel bad for the kid.
Throughout junior, he played on dominant Oil King teams that played great team defense. The Oilers are nothing like that.

The way the Oilers play defence, it won't help.

I think we won the trade, but I think we (fans) are undervaluing Horak. He's solid, even at the NHL level. Not the most skilled, but great hockey sense.

Cant we suck for 2-5 years and then go into win-now mode?
Very frustrating that they would make a short-sighted move to bandage the Giordano injury when we could have promoted from within.
|
Monahan was the obvious pick at the time, and now appears to have been the best pick available to the Flames by a mile... the only thing you'd change for a "slow rebuild" is sending him to Ottawa, but even then, as a "slow rebuild" advocate myself, he pretty much forced the Flames to keep him.

Unfortunately, hits and blocked shots correlate inversely with possession.

I hope they groom him for the next 8 years like they did with Doober.
I like the trade and can't wait to see Smid in Flames colors.

The thing I like is that Smid can always be moved for a secound rounder or maybe even a first at the trade deadline next year or the year after. He is only 27.

If Horak couldn't make the team this year I didn't like his chances moving forward...with Porier, Klimchuck, Grudeau, and others coming up

Good trade for the Flames.
Smid is a good NHL defenceman.
Olivier Roy is probably just as likely to pan out as Brossoit.
Horak seems like a tweener. I doubt he even becomes an NHL regular.
