The circus in Edmonton is getting better and better. Trade your best defenceman and then sign a questionable goalie.

Think of this. Edmonton had 4 million in cap space before dealing Smid, now they have 7.5. So it stands to reason that they're paying Byzgalov at least 4 mil per season

Ugly

He's awful with a bad defence, and defences don't get much worse than Edmonton's.

They could really use a Smid type player.

1 year deal per Tencer

Dan Tencer ‏@dantencer 16s It's only a 1 year deal with Edmonton for Bryzgalov, so thank goodness for that.

I love this deal. Getting rid of one of their best d-man for a gamble like Bryz. Effing Hilarious. As a Flames fan, I support this 100%

LOL
Richard Cloutier ‏@rdcloutier 14m For you #Oilers fans, here's some good news: Bryzgalov can be there to mentor Nail Yakupov on being an NHL pro.

Edmonton Oilers ‏@EdmontonOilers 3m #Oilers have reached a verbal agreement on a one-year contract with G Ilya Bryzgalov, pending completion of today's EDM-CGY trade.

I said before that Edmonton would be instantly better if they got Bryz, and he is definitely an improvement. But if you have to trade away one of your best dman to sign him, doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose?

This move would have made sense about 6 games ago. It's highly unlikely that they are going to make the playoffs with or without Bryz.

How do they trade their best defenceman?

Bryzgalov? Do the Oilers know something the rest of the NHL doesn't? Usually not.

It's only a verbal agreement? So you mean he could still decide not to sign. This is awesome. Haven't they learned not to announce this stuff until they chain the guy up in the Rexall basement?
