I don't like giving up on Brossoit this soon. Does Horak really help the Oilers?
Wasn't Smid the Oilers best defensive d-man?

I like this trade, will have to take a shower to get the Oiler stank off him but Smid is decent. Horak still has a ways to go and Brossoit is an unknown being a goalie prospect.
Edit: I did think Smid was a bit younger, 25 or so. 27 is perfectly acceptable though.

Although to be fair, Smid is an NHL defenceman (former 9th overall pick that has played his entire career on a very bad team), and Flames only gave away a 3rd liner and goalie who may or may not make it.

I think the Flames have enough goalies prospects that Brossoit is expendable. And Horak never seemed to get a fare shake and wasn't going to from the looks of it.
I think Smid is a solid d-man...and thats one of our biggest holes. I don't mind this.

I've relaxed now and like this trade.
Horak has no place on this team anymore and Gilles is going to turn pro next year and there won't be room for him and Broissoit. Good job Feaster/Burke!

Yes we are in a rebuild, but this team needs some massive help on Defence, and don't have enough in the pipe IMO to not upgrade that spot.
Smid, I don't mind, and I don't mind his contract and is 27 so that's ok.
Horak is not an NHL player and I doubt he will be, but I've heard nothing but good things on Brossoit (although I haven't watched enough to know) so that part of the deal confusing to me.

Horak was never going to make this team so i'm okay with that
Brossoit hurts but we still have a deep goalie pool.
Smid is dece. nothing over the moon.

Now someone better be on the phone with teams looking for a defensive defensman like Smid. Hopefully another team will over pay to get him from us. That's the only way this makes any sense
