Did they smooth the edges of the iPad Air? I've got an iPad 2 and I found it very difficult to hold because the edges would dig into my hand.

Yes, they don't taper off like that at all anymore. The corners are rounded (think iPhone 5C)

Mmmm, I can't remember my admin password for my Macbook so I can't upgrade to the new OS. I'm an idiot. I've heard really good things about them fixing up the dual monitor and the way they do it, frig.

Apparently the reason Apple will have supply issues with the Retina mini are LCD burn-ins with Sharp and LG displays:
http://www.unwiredview.com/2013/11/0...to-fix-things/

Quote:

What matters in the end, is that neither of Apple’s chosen iPad Mini Retina display suppliers (LG, Sharp) was able to solve manufacturing yield issues, to deliver enough displays for this tablet. The problem is with something called “LCD burn-in” nobody can see, but which still falls below Apple’s standards.

So now, Retina iPad Mini is delayed, and Apple is hard at work renegotiating display supply terms with Samsung. Which is the only company in the World that can supply Apple with enough Retina Mini displays to satisfy the demand.
Unfortunately, after being kicked-out as a potential display supplier early this year, Samsung will be ready to deliver enough Mini Retina screens only sometime early next year.

Before that – expect weeks of waiting time for Retina iPad Mini, or be ready to hugely overpay in grey market.
IPad Mini production volumes will meet its demand next January, at best.

What are the rumours as to why Apple is closing the international stores early in the next few weeks?

I read some article about it yesterday- doesn't affect US stores.

Apparently just quarterly meetings for retail staff:

Looks like Canada is getting the shaft with the supply issues for the retina mini.
Retina Mini to launch tomorrow in United States, Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, and Singapore.

No word on when Canada will get it

You can order the retina ipad mini off apple.ca right now. Says it will ship in 1-3 business days for the 16-32 gb wifi models.
64-128 wifi models ship in 5-10 days.

all the wifi+cellular ship in 5-10 days

Just ordered mine. Says shipps in 1-3 days; estimated delivery November 25-27.

Also got stuck in a loop of it wanting me to engrave when using IE. Switched to Firefox and the order went smooth.

Just throwing this out there, don't bother trying to buy the new release products on apple.ca if you are trying right at midnight/launch.

The Apple Store app is WAYYYYYY faster and smoother during these launches. I've also found that they're up and ready to order there well before the website itself.

Or is this like the NEXUS thing?

"Nevermind about the App, it's the worst thing ever!! Don't download or use it."

For me it's that I would rather wait a couple of extra days than to have to spend time in a line.

Maybe I am misunderstanding, but I am talking about ordering through the app versus using the apple.ca website.

Just figured out how it ships in 1-3 days; but delivery is in 2 weeks. I just got my notification that it had shipped, and UPS shows it as being in China.

Will I have to pay duty when I receive it? I'd like to think Apple has that worked out; as every other iPad in Canada did come from China originally.

Almost all online Apple orders are fulfilled out of China, you will not have to pay duties.

No, you won't be paying a duty on it. Apple generally pads their delivery estimates quite heavily, so I'd be surprised if it took 2 weeks. Once it gets on Canadian soil it's a matter of it arriving via Canada Post (on time) or UPS (best of luck even getting it).

If you ordered a retina mini you might want to check it for burn in. Multiple people are reporting their mini will retain images:

That was supposed to be a grey screen on the mini after a chess board was shown on the screen for a few minutes

My regular iPad mini does that too, my kid was playing with the stopwatch stuff for a while, and the milliseconds numbers were visible and flashing/changing after exiting the app. You could see flashing shadows of #'s on the home screen, even after recycling the power.

I've had this on PC LCD monitors too.

Usually if you just put up a blank white screen for a while it'll go away, I did that with the iPad and it worked.

^ apparently this same problem was occurring with last years MBP retina 15'' until apple fixed it

Also the guy who came up with the test said he tried it on the demo retina mini's in the apple store and they didn't have the problem.

His twitter feed is here: https://twitter.com/marcoarment
