There is no doubt i am afan or Ortio and i like waht Conroy had to say about him during internission. I give him a few months and he will be ready for a call up. Having said that, McDonald was stellar in net last night. He has that NHl poise and it is going to be a good battle bewteen the two. Best players last night IMO were Cundari who made what i counted in excess of 7 hard hits in the 1st period alone. This was a key part of the game. Street played really well. Woothersponn is good but logs too much ice and his fatigue was showing. 4 on 4, the team was tired and hung on for the most part. Great game though..

With Breen, Sieloff and now Billins out of the lineup, I guess that is no surprise.
I really liked their defense going into the season, even though it is very young. But it is amazing that they top the conference considering the injuries to both clubs.

Bingo. That's what I've been noticing as well. I've seen him progressing a bit more each game. He's still prone to mistakes and turnovers, but not as much as a few weeks ago.
He's playing basically second pairing minutes right now, but I'm not sure he shouldn't be on the third pairing for a while. Master third pairing minutes, THEN move up.

Sometimes playing above your level is the quickest way to improve though. (As long as you can actually do the job, despite it being a struggle)

Unfortunately I think he is the best option right now. I don't think the extra minutes are going to hurt his development, but this is a direct result of all of Billins, Smith and Breen being in the NHL due to injuries, when ideally 2 of them would be with the Heat
Also how about Brady Lamb? The kid has really turned it up since getting into the line-up. Is he still on a PTO? or has he signed an AHL deal now?

He looks to still be on a PTO based on what I can find. I'm guessing they will let him play the 25 games or close to it and then make a decision.

He's on a PTO. And yes, he's been a beast the past handful of games. He and Wotherspoon have shown decent chemistry together.
Lamb's out there blocking shots, taking pucks out of the crease when it looks like a sure goal, gets the odd hit and keeps going. He looks pretty good right now.

Roman Horak has been traded to the Edmonton Oilers so I imagine he is now off Abbotsford roster and going to OKC.
That's one post I never wanted to make...

That explains why Dave Semenko was at the Heat games.

Hows wotherspoon looking, near nhl ready? I hope he makes the flames next year, a smid-wotherspoon bottom pairing would be good.

Arsene has been named the team captain.

I never saw this coming, not even a little.

Personally thought Bancks deserved it, but ultimately it came down to a vote by the players.
Arsene's a great leader on the ice. Really really nice guy too. Congrats to him.

Does this mean his PTO will become an AHL deal? I know it won't by default or anything, but I'm not sure how you can name a guy captain and then not extend him an AHL contract.
Honestly even though I am sure he is a great leader, I am a bit disappointed. I don't feel Arnese has been all that good for the Heat and was hoping he would be released from him PTO when bodies return (at both levels) because including Billins the Heat could add 3 more defensemen as the Flames and Heat get healthier.
edit: in case he doesn't agree I think thymebalm thanked me before I said I didn't like Arsene lol

Arsene could definitely get an A. That wouldn't surprise me. One of Nemisz or Byron as well.

Well you were close, got the players right, just picked the wrong guy getting the 'C'.
