Not that I think he'll be in the conversation for the Calder but nichuskin looked like a young Rick Nash in that game tonight.

This kid has potential to be a superstar. Malkin/Nash type of player. Canucks fans will riot if Horvat doesn't pan out.

They wouldn't have kept him up if he wasn't ready. Nothing indicates that he will be spending time in the press box, unless you have a crystal ball.

How are the other top picks doing?
Lindholm sent to the AHL:
“@NHLCanes: NEWS: #Canes to recall Chris Terry from @CheckersHockey, assign Elias Lindholm to Charlotte. Details: http://m.carhur.com/01DCn

So the 'Canes burned a year off his entry level contract, and sent him down? Ha!

Sending him to the AHL would have counted as a year towards his contract no matter when they sent him, wouldn't it?

Norm!

Yes his elc would still count in the AHL.
Even though I think that Monahan's game isn't quite as sharp as it was in the first 9 games, he's still up there with the top guys from the draft that have survived to this point in the NHL. That's ok with me.

No, if they had sent him down before hitting 10 games in the NHL his contract would have slid a year. That's what's going on with Sieloff's contract as well. I'm sure Getbak will be here soon to show the exact passage in the CBA.

AHL is considered a pro league, and Sieloff's contract has kicked in.
Lindholm's contract would have started in the AHL regardless of how soon he was sent down.

Europeans coming from europe can have their entry level contract slid one year if playing in the AHL, or at least they could in the last CBA. I have no idea if it has since changed.
Ladislav Smid had this happen in 05-06.

The CBA specifies NHL games played not professional games played.
A player's contract can slide in the AHL given he hasn't played more than 9 NHL games in a season.
Sieloff's ELC will slide as long as he doesn't play more than 9 NHL games
Lindholm has already played 10 NHL games so his first year of ELC is burned.
Here is the exact wording from the CBA:
Quote:
In the event that an 18 year old or 19 year old Player signs an SPC with a Club but does not play at least ten (10) NHL Games in the first season
under that SPC, the term of his SPC and his number of years in the Entry
Level System shall be extended for a period of one (1) year, except that
this automatic extension will not apply to a Player who is 19 according to
Section 9.2 by virtue of turning 20 between September 16 and December
31 in the year in which he first signs an SPC. Unless a Player and Club
expressly agree to the contrary, in the event a Player's SPC is extended an
additional year in accordance with this subsection, all terms of the SPC,
with the exception of Signing Bonuses, but including Paragraph 1 Salary,
games played bonuses and Exhibit 5 bonuses, shall be extended; provided,
however, that the Player's Paragraph 1 Salary shall be extended in all
circumstances.

I thought Lindholm was planning to go back to Sweden this year and did not really plan to play in the NHL? Now they have convinced him to go to the AHL?

That could be a reason why they decided on sending him down after the 10th game.
Lindholm (or his agent) tells the Canes he'll come over as long as they agree that no matter what he'll get his 10 games so his ELC doesn't slide. Canes agree, play him the 10 games. Now they have him in the AHL with their coaches in NA ice playing and developing him how they want and can still come back up to the NHL at any time.

Like the other poster said, it's that you're reliable. You're one of the posters that makes this site such a valuable resource to Flames fans and keeps me coming back, no matter how frustrated I get with this place some times.
Keep up the good work Getbak!
