I hate how all the friends and family get to hang around in the theater. For some reason that just doesn't scream poker to me. Plus it's not really fair to get advice from the rail during play imo. There should be at least more separation from the crowd and the players to take away this aspect from the game.

It also pretty much ruins the intensity and atmosphere when you have packs of screaming idiots yelling over every hand.

Considering that the Detroit Lions can't win a World Championship... I'd say it's likely.

Most other world championships actually have their own uniforms of some kind.

(and I'll give a pass for even calling this a world championship, since the word "world" actually is in the name of the title he won, unlike a certain NBA team - see photo)

Spoiler!

I also like that the only guy at the final table not wearing a sponsors patch won. Good for him.

Unless he was actually sponsored by the Detroit Lions.

But if he was sponsored by the Lions wouldn't he have lost?

I think it's a world championship. There were 5 countries represented at the final table. 83 different countries in the entire main event

And it's called the World Series of Poker Main Event. It definitely is a world championship.

That was a really enjoyable final table. Antonio Esfandiari's commentary was excellent. Yes he's a professional, but he really understands the game. He also is one of a few people how can add commentary and people at home of all levels can understand and enjoy it.

I found it hilarious that during the last hand Farber started saying he didn't care. If that was true, he would have shoved way earlier and tried to get lucky. He's disappointed. I would be too, but $5M is a nice consolation prize.

Riess played really well. He hit a lot of cards early on, but stayed composed and weathered the storm when Farber started making a comeback. He made some nice positional plays, read Farber well and used his chip stack to his advantage. Even the last hand he set him up by playing it the exact same way 2 or 4 hands before that one.

Farber basically peaked with his outstanding bluff when he briefly took the chip lead. After that he started playing a bit more recklessly (likely due to overconfidence) and Riess made him pay.

Poker's like that though. I don't know how many times I've been playing and suddenly my mind starts to get bored or lose focus or whatever and start playing stupid just to get it over with. I can see that being magnified in this situation. The tournament's been going for days and days, and you start thinking, "Even if I push and lose, I get $5M! Why wouldn't I? I just want out of here. I'll never grind out this guy's chip stack."

I can see it. I find it amazing these guys have the patience to even get to the final table. I suppose the payout is worth it.

Farber's cards were terrible most of the night, except for a 20 minute stretch.

It looked like Reiss was being dealt 4 winning hands out of 5, and that he properly used his leverage to take the pots.

I think the turning point was when Reiss re-raised with AK and Farber had 74s, made 2 pair on the turn and got counterfeited on the river. That was going to be a ~35M+ swing to Farber, and instead wound up being a ~20M swing to Reiss when they were basically even in chips. Both played it well, but it was one of those luck things...
