They are also constantly developing commercial properties all around there.

Anyway, I agree that it's quiet after the game - I go elsewhere. But I don't look to hang around at the Dome after a game either.
I'm fairly certain it's a newer pic. Looks exactly how I remembered it from just over a year or so ago. The condos you're talking about are likely just above the middle top of the picture. It's obvious that they didn't intend to keep this place as "the middle of nowhere" and were hoping, and still are, to develop it more but at the time of it's groundbreaking I don't think it's a big stretch to say it was built in the middle of nowhere and the risk didn't pay off. Unfortunately right after the recession hit and the failure of the Coyotes caused the Westgate City Center to send out foreclosure notices and the ambitious project struggled as a whole.

How so? To the same point last year? Less comped tickets? So far they are averaging 11,717, which is lower than last year's average, but attendance does pick up in the winter.

Putting Phoenix Coyotes Attendance Figures in Context
http://thehockeywriters.com/putting-...gures-context/

With five home games already played in the 2013-14 season, the Coyotes appear to have regressed slightly. At the time of this post, the team is averaging 12,833 per game, a drop of slightly over 1000. While that may seem to be cause for alarm, let’s take a look at how these figures stack up against the first five home games of each season since 2009.

Small sample size aside, the Phoenix Coyotes attendance figures should instill some confidence in their fans. Much like the holistic season figures, the numbers are trending positively as each season progresses. Even more importantly, there is a noticeable difference in early season attendance averages and whole season attendance averages. This means that the Phoenix Coyotes tend to draw more fans later on in the year.

Glendale, Coyotes court Canadians to bolster NHL franchise

http://www.azcentral.com/community/g...nclick_check=1

“One thing you learn when you become a salesperson is the expression ‘Fish where the fish are.’ There is no question that we have a very resilient and devoted fan base here, but there’s also no question that we have to grow that fan base,” he said.

“Over 500,000 Canadians from Alberta and British Columbia alone spend the winter here in Arizona. Put that into perspective. The city of Winnipeg has just over 600,000 people, and they have a full arena every night to watch their hometown Jets,” he said.

Figures provided by the Arizona Office of Tourism are somewhat more conservative.

The tourism office says 728,000 Canadians visited Arizona in 2012 overall. Of those, 243,600 were from Alberta and 164,500 were from British Columbia, combining for 408,100 from the western provinces.

No matter the specific numbers, Canadian hockey fans make their presence known at Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, where the Coyotes play, LeBlanc said.

“When the teams from Calgary and Edmonton and Vancouver are in town, we have a full building. We feel the opportunity is to turn those fans into Coyotes fans,” he said.

Ideally, Canadians would come to Arizona when their local teams play, then stick around to watch the Coyotes play another opponent. Ultimately, Coyotes owners want Canadian tourists to view the Coyotes as their second favorite team, LeBlanc said.

They must have told everyone in the upper bowl to go down for the third period because it looked better in the third, but it was bad.

It's not the worst idea in the world and what I find interesting, is how much better this could work in Las Vegas. I know most hockey traditionalists (especially in Canada) bristle at the idea of another team in the desert- I think it could be a success.

While you'd be hard-pressed to call Phoenix's business plan a 'success', they are successful when the Canadian teams are there based on tourists. The amount of Canadians in Vegas at any one time on the Strip is probably at least as high as the busiest time in Phoenix, if not higher. IF a stadium was close enough to the Strip, I think Vegas might be able to fill 25-50% of a 17,000 seat arena with Canadians on most nights. Add in another 5-6K of season ticket holding locals and it's got legs.

Be a raucous crowd to say the least too!

If the Coyotes can't put more than 10,000 fans in the seats for every game when they are a top 5 team, how bad are things going to get when they're a bottom 5 team? 5,000? 3,000? Some markets just aren't going to work, and Phoenix is pretty much a textbook example.

If your arena is 3 blocks or closer to the nearest farmer's field, it is, in fact, in the middle of nowhere.
