I think it looks awesome. I wish we had gotten an actor like that to play Frodo for LOTR.. would have added a lot to the movie.
Looks like they are including a lot in this movie... makes me wonder how much extra there will be in the third one.
Spoiler!
They can't really make the five army battle into an entire movie.. and from the looks of it Bard will be shooting Smaug down in this movie. I wonder how much lead in there will be to LOTR.

back when the LOTR trilogy was released, if you told me that The Hobbit would come out a decade later and replace a lot of practical effects and creatures with CG, I would have been fine with it under the assumption that the visual effects tech would continue to improve. unfortunately it seems like that didn't really happen and the effects we have today aren't a whole lot better than they were 10 years ago.
either way PJ is still getting our money. maybe that's why.
It would hard for them to do any worse. After watching it a few times now I honestly think it's right there with Phantom Menace in disappointment status. The excuse people give it is that it's a book for children, but the movie is just bad, and I can't really think of anything that was good about it. Even the effects and CGI were surprisingly poor at many points.
Hopefully this one will be a significant improvement, but I am not getting my hopes up.

I'm geeking out more about the Dol Guldur plot than the main hobbit story (although I have to say, Cumberbatch's voice sounds perfect as Smaug). I had assumed that we'd get to see the White Council's attack on Dol Guldur, but now I'm starting to think that Jackson's going to rewrite the timeline and merge the White Council attack with the battle of Dol Guldur (which technically doesn't happen until the the end of the war of the ring, around 100 years later).
The Quest stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little, and it will fail, to the ruin of all. Yet hope remains while the Company is true. Go Flames Go!
Now that we’ve gushed over how incredible the bonus features are, we’ll start with the 13 minutes of additional footage which are included in the film’s Extended Edition, and we’ll also list the time at which they start in bold so that fans may look out for the new scenes.

People honestly still care? The first one was mostly a train wreck.
I think this one SHOULD be better, I mean it can't be much worse. The only problem is that they were all filmed at the same time, and Jackson probably filmed them all in the same flimsy video game manner.
I love the LOTR movies btw; they have their flaws, but each of them are great movies in their own right. In no way I am a hater, and really wished I like The Hobbit, but it didn't work for me at all. It's really hard to say anything positive about it, hoping for significant change this time around.
Loved the first, will love the second, and the third.
Haters gon' Hate.

I honestly thought the movie was great. I can understand how some people didn't enjoy it, but to call it terrible just seems over-the-top. Looking forward to the second one!

I thought it was entertaining. It wasn't particularly good as a film, but geared to a young audience I'm okay with it. The thing is this one's being marketed as a bit darker and with higher stakes (not ROTK but not dancing and singing around either), so I'm interested to see how it ends up.
Let's put it this way, it was better than the Two Towers. That was an atrocious mess. As long as the last two don't dip under that bar again, I'm fine.
