Are you kidding? Of course its a recruiting tool, its the primary reason behind how they rebranded about 10 years ago. Why do you think almost every other program not in the SEC has done the same exact thing.

How do you think they are in the top 5 every year now? from the increased talent they are recruiting in state?!?!

And by the way its not an underhanded insult, its pointing out that you are absolutely the last person they thought of with the rebranding. You don't have to like what they do, but they don't care, kids do and that's all that matters to them.

I would say the vast majority don't do what Oregon does, and I don't think recruits really factor in jerseys in their decisions. If a kid is being recruited by Oregon, he's likely being recruited by several other good programs. These decisions aren't made on fluff. Oregon is a good program, with great facilities and significant national exposure. That's why they go.

Will definitely try. My night is going to be such a scramble. Them changing it to a night game has definitely thrown a loop into my planning. Doesn't leave me a whole lot of time to sleep before my flight when I get back to Birmingham!

Any tips on where to park, and how early I need to get there to get a spot?

It's much closer to say that 15 non SEC programs DONT do this now. Almost all of them have 3rd, 4th and 5th uniforms.

Every single week there's a dozen, maybe two dozen new variation uniforms that are much louder, shinier and brighter than the last. I don't like the proliferation either but at least I understand why it happens.

EDIT: Even oregon hasn't done anything this loud: http://thinkprogress.org/sports/2013...-honor-troops/

I think you don't realize how many small schools in the MAC, CUSA, etc won't waste money on 3rd unis.

Just for fun I took a look at the CUSA East

ECU Pirates have alt unis and helmets
Marshall has alt helmets
Middle Tenn doesn't appear to have alts
FAU has several variations of jerseys and helmets, I found five helmets on display at some 2013 press conference
LATech has three jerseys and 2 helmets
UAB has alt helmets
SMiss has alt helmets

And that's a low budget conference.

Anyway my point is that its rather funny that old guys scoff at what Oregon is doing and look down the end of their nose at them. What Oregon has done works. It works very, very well. They have a reach now that is a massive step change better than anytime in their history, and maybe the best improvement by a smallish program that has very little talent in state.

And now the vast majority of the NCAA is copying them. It was a nothing program in the middle of nowhere and now is arguably the 2nd best program in the country. Sure Nike put a ton of money into it but their success is a result of much more than money. They took a risk with their offense, which just like their gear is copied all over the place now, including in the NFL.

In fact try to name another program that has been replicated more than Oregon in the last 2 or 3 decades.

It works because they are good not because they have neat uniforms.

Kansas State has been copied more than Oregon. Bill Snyder pretty much invented the spread option and zone read. He was running it in the 90's with Michael Bishop. And to be honest Alt Jerseys aren't something that Oregon came up with. They came up with 5+ jerseys and they are only copied by Maryland, Baylor, Texas Tech and a few others.

So apparently Texas is the only place Nick Saban will leave Alabama for, and he's "feeling the pressure" at Alabama. As if somehow Texas will be less pressure. Whole thing sounds like Saban is trying to squeeze some more cash from Bama, because obviously Texas will sign a blank cheque if he wants it.

Quote:
The agent for coach Nick Saban told Texas officials in January that Texas was the only school he would consider leaving Alabama for, and his success with the Crimson Tide had put him under "special pressure," The Associated Press has learned.

The agent, Jimmy Sexton, made the comments during a 45-minute call with former Texas Regent Tom Hicks and current Regent Wallace Hall. Hicks detailed the call in a Sept. 24 email that was obtained Tuesday by the AP through an open-records request.

"Sexton confirmed that UT is the only job Nick would possibly consider leaving Alabama for, and that his success there created special pressure for him," Hicks wrote.

Ya, and a couple weeks ago it was Saban's wife sniffing around real estate in Austin.

That's one of my least favorite things about college ball. Kids sign for four years and its hard to get out of that deal, but coaches can come and go as they please, after talking to recruits about commitment. Pretty annoying actually. I wish the NCAA could find a way to arrange for coaching contracts to mandate that the coach cannot accept another role mid-term.

with all the NCAA heat this year the cracks are starting to show. The fans are not happy unless they blow someone out and even then they leave early.

They got good kids for several reasons including neat uniforms, then they got good. I think you have it backwards.

I looked around at the origin of the spread offence, and I could find zero connection with Snyder. Lots of versions of the spread, including the 'option spread' (From Oregon btw) but no connection to Snyder. I'm sort of curious now, got a link?

This isn't me by any means since I'm actually a pro muschamp supporter. Dude has lost 12 players to injury this year that were in the starting two deep.
