A NHL coach encountered more criticism than he bargained for when dropping off his 5-year-old daughter at school recently.
In a video posted on YouTube on Friday, Edmonton Oilers' coach Dallas Eakins, who's in his first season as an NHL bench boss, says he was walking his daughter to school when a child yelled out that he was the head coach of the team.
His daughter got really excited at the mention of her father, says Eakins, but it didn't last long. Another child yelled out, "You suck."

They need to do a shake up trade, but there are some issues.
Yak is the likely forward to get traded, but with the exception of the 6 goals in 3 games in no pressure time last year, he's been below what you expect for a number one pick. He's pretty much one dimensional, he's a selfish player who's not producing. So at the end of the day his stock is very low, and other GM's know it, I doubt he's going to get the Oilers that top pairing defenseman without a major throw in, and frankly his attitude seems to be pretty stinky.
Justin Schultz. Ok, the kid has decent offensive skill sets, but he's expensive offense because his defensive stupidity is actually costing them more then his offense is bringing in. He doesn't seem to be learning in his own end either, he's at the end of his contract, and this kid is going to want bank to stay in Edmonton. I would be surprised if any team will offer more then a 2nd for him, and I don't see competitive teams lining up for him. I think he's going to end up like MAB, a power play specialist who's dangerous to put on the ice in key situations where you need to prevent a goal. Teams will keep looking at him as someone who can man a power play and not much else. Remember Mab was pretty hyped as well and ended up floating around the league and the AHL.
The Oilers really did a number on these two players by rushing them like they did.
The tradable guys that will get you the top flight defenseman that the Oilers need are Hall and RNH, But Hall has questions around his durability and his insistance on skating around with his head down while either making blind passes or trying junior type toe drags. RNH is going to be a great player for the Oilers and would demand an overpayment.
Eberle is to me going to top out as a 2nd line guy, but his physical game needs a ton of work.
The Oilers don't have much else that's going to bring them back what they need which is a op pairing dman and a bonifide starting game changer goalie.

Somewhere Ralph Krueger is having a cold beer and a well deserved laugh on his lofty Oilers' paycheque.

Wonder if he kept his Skype account. We know Mac-T still has his, has he encouraged Eakins to sign up for one?

Let me try:

-Christmas Day practice
-Calling out Souray for faking injury
-Trading known injured players back to back
-Announcing almost signed/traded players which made them look bad when it wasn't consummated
-Fired 4 coaches (including a popular Pat Quinn) in 5 years for not getting further despite a horrible record.

Not making any effort to get Glencross signed to an extension (which he would have gladly done). Instead he focused his efforts on trying to land a big fish free agent like Marian Hossa.
Then it all went wrong in Oil Town and Glencross signed a good value deal with the Oilers' biggest rival (where Glencross has developed into one of the best bargain players in the League) and Hossa chose a one-year deal with Detroit over a big-money multi-year offer from the Oilers.
I guess bone-headed moves like that were enough to make Oilers' President Kevin Lowe lose his patience with Oilers' GM Kevin Lowe, and Lowe replaced Lowe with Steve Tambellini less than a month later.

That 2014 first round pick would be quite the asset to move.
Joey Mac + Stajan + David Jones?!?

He picked probably the worst game they have played in a long time to watch. That game was worse than their usual crap effort.

The head coach of the craptacular local team? Hell no. Part of his job, his very well paying job, is to accept public criticism.

Pretty well dead.
the Oiler countdown is 19 losses to pretty much be eliminated from the playoffs. with 67 games left. they're dead already, the corpse just doesn't know to fall down and rot.
Its almost like the players are playing to get him fired.

But, post playoff failure ushers in a magical season in Edmonton.
The annual but much anticipated "race to the bottom" , an event that's been going on for the better part of a decade.

-The Thomas Vanek $50M offer sheet miss (which Buffalo matched because they had just lost Briere)
-The Dustin Penner offer sheet hit (which drew the ire of the media and Brian Burke at the time). Penner turned out to be a bust
-the failed attempt to trade Penner (+ Smid and Cogliano) 2 years later for Dany Heatley (who refused to waive no-trade to leave Ottawa). All names were announced before trade was consummated
-The 2007 "signing" of Michael Nylander announced by the Oilers when he had actually signed with the Capitals
-Signing Ales Hemsky to a ridiculous 2-year $10m deal in 2012 (even though he had been injured at least once in each of the previous 4 seasons)
-signing Shawn Horcoff to a ridiculous 6-year $33m deal in 2008
There are just so many.....

I've definitively figured out the source of all of Edmonton's problems:
The last season in which the Oilers made the playoffs was 2005-06.
The last season in which Cory Cross played for the Oilers was 2005-06.
Clearly, this is irrefutable proof that you just can't replace a Cory Cross!
