Love the timing of Burke's article trying to defend crap like that. What a joke.
edit: Seriously, Burke's defending fighting as it's some sort of self-regulation against injuries and dirty plays yet what if the fighting itself is creating injuries and is the dirty play like this situation in question?
How can you defend body checking after what happened to Kronwall?
How can you defend the use of a hard rubber puck after what happened to Trent McCleary?
How can you defend the use of ice skates themselves after what happened to Clint Malarchuk?
If the only thing you've got is argument from extremes, you've got no argument.

Philly is 'bush league' by initiating a line brawl. But looking at the bigger picture, the NHL is bush league for allowing this stuff to even happen in the first place.
It's about respect. Look at NBA, MLB, NFL. I'd say there is considerably more respect in those leagues. In the NFL, players on opposing teams often pick each other up off the turf after a tackle. In the NBA, opposing players often hug/handshake before and after games. There's still trash-talking, but underlying it all people treat each other as people.
In the NFL, if you start a scrum and shove another player, that's 15 yards. In the NBA, most scrums end in suspensions. In the NHL, it happens 30 times a game, without any incidence. Change the culture. Teach real respect. A scrum breaks out in the NHL - give one guy 2 minutes. Give him a 10 minute misconduct. No other league tolerates this bush-league level of disrespect.
Devastating hits happen all the time in the NFL. Yet teammates don't have this 'grrr must get revenge' mentality about it, like in the NHL. They don't go chasing around the guy who delivered that dirty hit, because doing so isn't 'tough,' it's just bush.

This is probably one of the dumbest arguments and rebuttals possible, congrats.
Holtby must have been thinking wtf did i do. All i have been doing is stopping all the pucks.
Not surprised Flyers will always be one of the D-Bag teams of the NHL.
Why? Because it shows that using sensationalism as part of your argument against something is stupid?
I'd say for what it argues, it's the PERFECT argument.
Congrats for not grasping it.
It wasn't sensationalism, it was a fact. Try comprehending what was being said. Actually read it and understand before you hit the reply button.
Emery was fighting dirty and according to Burke fighting is needed to get dirty plays out of the game. But what happens when people fight dirty? Should another enforcer have to come in and fight?
League sources tell me #NHL will discuss 10-game suspension for goalies leaving their zone to fight much like player leaving bench rule #bn

But that wasn't the point of his post, as I said, you failed to grasp it, so before you talk down to people TRY to ensure you've covered your bases.
Wow, I'm a little late to the party, but I've got to say if I was on the ice and the other goalie charged down the ice and assaulted my goalie who wanted nothing to do with him, I wouldn't really hesitate to put him down hard.
If I knew he was a former boxer, I'd probably just two-hand him across the head.
The league really needs to do something about fighting, I don't think it adds anything to the game anymore.

Why not just offer a 10 game suspension for ALL players that mindlessly attack others? It's not hard to figure out when a fight is completely unprovoked.

They could make the suspension if the goalie crossed the opposing blue line. That way if they want to go at it they can meet at centre ice, if one of them wants to stay in his crease then he doesn't need to worry about getting mugged.

Yeah, they are solving the wrong problem here. Suspend someone who beats up on an unwilling opponent? Yes. Suspend goalies simply for fighting? No.
And puckluck - I can't tell you how surprised I am to find you missed the point. And the point, simply, is that we can't use an extreme to judge something. Emery's actions were extreme - and the league fumbled the ball badly by not suspending Emery. (And despite the league's contention, there are rules that he could have been suspended under. Not the least of which is the Commissioner's authority to punish conduct detrimental to the sport.) But the existence of an extreme example does not make an argument.

If you want to know what's wrong with the Philadelphia Flyers' culture, listen to today's Marek vs. Wyshinski podcast wherein they interview the guy who made Emery the third star in the game and he defends Emery's actions as "entertainment".
I am absolutely disgusted that Emery got away with that mugging. Holtby could have been seriously hurt by those punches to the back of the head. The NHL blew it big time on this one.
I have no respect for anyone who condones that garbage.
