The more I read into this, the worse it sounds. less of a one off prank and more along the lines of constant harrassing including teammates making fun of him and his family.

The prank was allegedly that an entire table of players got up and walked away from Martin as he tried to join them at the table and that's when he lost it.

It would have to be tough to be an outcast like that and hard to buy in to the "football family" atmosphere that the other players are trying to make it out to be.

His suspension will provide him the opportunity to receive the attention and professional treatment necessary to overcome his challenges, and we will support him during this time. The Jacksonville Jaguars will evaluate Justin’s status once he has successfully met the criteria to be considered for reinstatement to the league.”

The eight-game suspension strongly suggests, based on the language of the substance-abuse policy, that the penalty was the result of a negotiation between the NFL and the NFLPA.

Blackmon, as we understand it, was in Stage 3 of the league’s substance-abuse program. Violation of the policy while in Stage Three ordinarily results in a banishment with the ability to re-apply after a calendar year. The union and/or Blackmon’s representatives apparently persuaded the league to trim the return date in half.

I don't see how the Jags are going to win a game this year now. I was thinking Blackmon might singlehandedly be able to get a game for them (though they obviously don't have anyone who can get him the ball consistently).

Yeah it's been puzzling to say the least. A new report is saying that Dolphins guard Richie Incognito is being investigated as the main person who has harassed Martin going back to 2012. This hasn't been confirmed and the NFLPA is investigating as is the league.

I found the ticker lines coming out about Martin leaving the Dolphins disturbing. To be fair, I can't recall whether I saw it on NFL Network (most likely) or on one of the ESPN channels. But the ticker said something like this: " Dolphins announce OT-Johnathan Martin has left the team due to mental issues."

Pathetic statement if indeed it did originate with the Dolphins.
