Cheering for two teams in the same league is lame.

I actually know quite a few people who have teams they cheer for on the side, but most of the time they aren't in the same conference.

Backlund & Bouma showed a bit of chemistry in their limited minutes the other night, so why bench Bouma for Jackman? Is he definitely a healthy scratch? I like the way Bouma plays & there's no denying he tries his best.

Anyway, I'm hoping Berra shows he has what it takes mentally to handle this opportunity & runs with it today. Tough game, but I think the Flames will come out of the gates flying & make an entertaining game of it.

Sucks for Berra... First start in the NHL and has to face the cup champs... way to give him every chance to succeed.

Chicago has scored at least 5 goals in 4 of their last 5 games. This one could be ugly.

Is the DUI-lin Wall starting for the Hawks?

One of the guys you're named for had a great debut against the powerful Dallas Stars about 15 years ago. Kiprusoff started solidly for us. Roman Turek was great for us the first 20 games he was here.

I guess the problem is, when the goalie is not very good to start with, they're not going to have a strong debut. Been the case for most of the scrubs we've tried to band-aid into our net since Kipper came along.

As long as it's as much fund to watch as most the games this year I don't care if they get smashed 10-1.

Heck I would prefer that to get any hopes of a winning season out of management's head and start even more youth.

Tickets are all paid for not like I can get a refund. And it's not like there is any other sports entertainment in this town, so if they lose the next 60 we'll still be at the games next year and after that too.

Hartley comments on Backlund

Quote:
Mikael Backlund, after being scratched Wednesday, returned Friday as the fourth-line centre.

In little more than eight minutes of ice time, he was plus-one, with a takeaway. He won four of his seven faceoffs.

“The minutes I gave him, it’s pretty unfair for me to judge Backs’ game,” said Hartley.'

“You see him work. I have lots of time for Backs. It’s a matter of keep working hard, keeping a positive attitude, which he has. He’ll be fine.”

The coach added that newcomers Sean Monahan, 19, and Joe Colborne, 23, are cutting into Backlund’s workload.

“It’s part of the battle,” said Hartley. “That’s what I told him, ‘Monahan and Colborne came in and kind of stole some of your ice time.’ That’s the competitive nature of this business. I told him, ‘You have to fight back. You have to push back.’ That’s his challenge.”

The Flames are a team I cheer for on the side, because I live in Calgary. While I am a Chicago fan, I've also had the opportunity to experience Iginla's entire career here, and 95% of the live hockey I've enjoyed has been at the Saddledome.

Generally I agree, but living in Calgary for the past 20 years, it's hard not to be a 'fan'. If anything, I would say I'm a Chicago fan that follows Calgary pretty closely. Love talking hockey as well, and it's a much better conversation to have when you put in the effort to involve yourself in the team that most of the city you live in loves.

My other option would probably be going to the Dome and not cheering, or going and cheering for whomever the Flames are playing against. Sounds super exciting...

Nothing official announced yet...but, it would not surprise me to see Khabbi in the net tonight.

On the 'Hawk PK struggles...many of the failures have been due to Kruger getting smoked in the faceoff circle to start the PK...a lot of point shots through screens off lost draws within the 1st 10 seconds of the PK. The other issue has been a too passive box. Last year, with Frolik on the 1st rotation, the 'Hawks ran a 1-1-2 with high energy Fro putting pressure on the puck anytime it was above the dots...without Fro, teams have been able to settle and move the puck all around the perimeter. The latest adjustment, since Nordstrom was sent to the Rock, and others (Saad, Bollig, Smith, Mills) have been paired with Kruger on the 1st PK rotation, the 'Hawks bring somewhat more puck pressure, but, it is still inconsistent, and they still do occasionally fall back into a passive box. The have been marginally better a man down last few games.

You could make the argument that there's noting he could do in this game that would be considered a disappointment.

Chicago has 24 goals in their last five games, so if they score a lot, it's just the Blackhawks continuing to do what they've been doing recently. If he can hold them to 3 or fewer goals, it can be a big confidence boost.

Looks like Roman Horak might be back.

Just looked at the roster, he wasn't there this morning, now he is. MacDonald still shows as on the roster, but if you remove him (as he has been sent down), that puts us at 23 players: http://flames.nhl.com/club/roster.htm

Reto Berra stuns in his Flames debut.

Flames win 3-0.
